Ford mondeo 1.8 td engine
How bad is the wireing on a 1.8 td mondeo if i wanted to put the engine in a kit car? Do you think it will be very quick?

Depends on age. The early ones *just* need an ign fed live to the fuel pump...
Quick? Waaahahahhhaaahhhaaa....
*If* I was personally going ot the effort of building a diesel engined kitcar, this would be one engine that wouldnt be on the list of
choices....
Dont just build it.....make it!

A friend of mine had an early mondeo diesel as a company car. It was rubish. It was the same engine as was fitted to the fiesta but with a bigger
turbo. the engine was flat and gutless except for the 300 RPM wide power band when the turbo was on song. And is did about 35 MPG rather than the 50
you should expect from a diesel.
Forget it.
Now a VW or Citroen / Peugeot HDi, whole other story but more complicated.

2.0 TDCi would be the one to go for if you can.
130 BHP & 330nm torque.
Reasonably quick in mondeo - should be good in a seven - providing it's not too heavy........

The peugeot 1.9 or the VW 1.9 would be a better option.
Fords are bullet proof lump but bloody heavy and slow as hell. Easy to wire up if u get a pre immobiliser one though.

There were 3 1.8 ford deisel engines:
TDi - the really old one, had about 75bhp. Very sluggish.
TDDi - the newer version. Had about 90bhp. Not as bad as the old one but still not brilliant
TDCi - the newest version, with common rail injection. 115bhp. A very good deisel engine.
Remember that deisels have no go in first at all as the ratio is so short, however once you get them into second they pull very well. Our Focus with
the TDCi engine in is suprisingly quick, and will actually leave a lot of higher powered cars behind in mid range acceleration.

Youve just described my old car perfectly apart from power band, its only 30rpm wide iirc!!
The car was however a superb personal self propelled 1/2 ton skip. Very useful while i was doing the house up.
