I'm sure it will withstand!

To anti flex you also could make a triangle from the back of the hoist to the vertical bar.

Also for my feeling the side bars aren't counted???

to tighten more the top bar you also could ad a small triangle on the end of that bar.

(lower weld forces)

Fe360 is the normal steel.

Gut feeling from many years experience says it will probably be OK, BUT I don't like C1 and would change the whole vertical part to a rectangular section..say C1 as 40 x 80 inside 50 x 100 with adj. holes on the neutral axis....

Im really not liking this home made lifting tackle idea. yeah it might work but its a lot of effort that could be used for the stripdown instead. if it doesnt work someone could get hurt. TBH there are some brave people on here publicly offering recommendations and approvals.

If your garage doesnt have walles that you can put a joist on top of (eg flat roof) then why not support a joist with joist hangers. These are used in the costruction undustry to good effect. A builders merchant will be able to advise what loading they can take. You can even go belt and braces by placing another joist vertically at each end to offer additional support over and above the joist hangers which again the builders merchant will be able to recommend.

The stress calculation somewhere above appears to be close, from what I can see.

Make the whole thing out of 80x40x3 as AlanB says. (How you doing Alan? ) You'll then be alive to tell the story.

I've seen a similar design to what you propose, fail with a Pinto hanging off it. No damage luckily.

Cheers,
Syd

I'm doing Ok Syd...thanks.

I've been busy helping my Dad rebuild his workshop before the next hurricane season.....hence the slow progress on the Meerkat.......of course the extra workspace won't hurt either....

Sorry for the thread hijack.......
