Gt-R
Evening all,
Due to various car related issues I may have to sell the indy in the near-ish future. If I do end up selling her, I'll be looking at building
what I think is the lastest version of the MK GT1, now made by spires sports cars. Anyone know much about
it/them, as the website is a little sparse. Oh, and I'd be looking at a bird (again)/zx-12r or naybe busa powered jobbie. Also, any one know of
any similar alternatives?

The dark blue one belongs to a fella up here - (hello Keith :-) in fact it's actually an MK. Now running a ZZR1200.
Hope to see it in action tomorrow night.

Zil, let me/us know how it goes. I like the stlying (?) and would prefer them to go/hande etc like a big shiny fast good handling thing! I to like
the gulf colours and the spires looks quite cool in stealth black with red touches.

Hi,I was one of the first people to drive the GTR and helped out a little bit swopping the original Audi engine, and road testing when Martin was
rushing to get it ready for the Donnington show a couple of years ago.
I was also sat as passenger when it threw a rod on the trackday.
I drove the car at pretty high speeds for about 10 miles on the roads and it was very forgiving ,comfortable and handled very well, quite a bit better
than an Indy which I rate as very good if not perfect.
It handled and drove better than a lot of production sportscars I can think of.
If you fancy that style you could do a lot worse,I liked it!:
Once I've finished a project why do I start another?

This one has actually been up and running for a while now. It formerly ran a zetec and he has since converted to the bike engine because that's
what wins up here. The ZZR engine hasn't been all sweetness and lught, but I'm told it's running well now. I hope so anyway - will
let you know.

DeanC, did you go in the Mk GT1, or the GT-R from spires, since they look, certainly chassis-wise, to be different cars. Also, I thought the GT1 was
chain driven, whilst the GT-R appears to have a sierra diff and a short prop. Could be wrong though.

Ive been out in the gtr and I was really impressed, only thing I thought a bit odd is how the peddle box is offset, but this is not a criticism just a
different design, spire sports cars have finished and improved the gtr really well, it sticks like sh?t to a blanket, has more room inside and of
course engine at rear running a short sierra prop, theres plenty of room for what ever engine you choose, I nearly bought one but really wanted a
turbo on my indy and couldnt have both,
I cant remember the chaps name now but he will have a really good deal- alot better than advertised!

I have had my GT-R on the road for 3 months now and with a thousand miles on the clock I can safely say that it is a fantastic car to drive. Even
round town it is almost like driving a production car but open it up and tip it in to a corner you get loads of grip.
The pedals are ofset to the left from your driving position but after driving it for a while you dont even notice. There is so much space in the
engine compartment that you could fit virtually any engine with a change of mounting positions. I believe that spire sportscars have made a few minor
changes to the chassis design around the rear bulkhead and engine bay but the car is still very much the same as Martins initial design.

Cheers for that wheezy. Do you know of anyone in the midlands with one who'd be up for taking me out for a spin? Also, what's it like as a
car to build? When you say the engine bay is huge, would it for example fit a nice big V6 in it? With maybe space for a super charger?!

The original GT-R built by Martin at MK Engineering was fitted with an Audi engine from an Audi 80 I believe. The Westfield XTR 4 uses a turbo charged
Audi Quatro engine and has roughly the same amount of space in the engine bay. The only trouble is that you will need a gearbox with a trans axle to
fit the engine.
By the time you fit a large engine and a transaxle gearbox you are adding a lot of weight to the car so you may have more BHP but the performance will
probably be the same as a bike engine instalation.
If you are looking for a test drive give Paul a ring at Spire Sportscars and he should be able to sort you out.

I dont know of any other GT-R's in your area. I think there is only about 7 completed cars on the road and out of those 2 or 3 are not road
legal (not SVA'd).
I guess you will have to wait a bit longer for a test drive.

Wat a lovely lookin wee car! I am so tempted by one of these. Would it be much more expensive than an indy? How would the handling compare to, say a
LMP or radical? Cheers
GTR side
That paint job makes it imo

There's a price list here. Looking at <£5k for a rolling chassis if you shop around
for some of the bits. That would also include the full body, but not painted. I also want mine to have the nice carbon wing! I think it adds to the
racing feel of the car.

Yeah the carbon wing is the business! I think some of those nice lightweight hubs from MNR wud be a must and some image billet 15x10in wheels. Damn
it, i'd end up spending thousands

Hi did you really mention the mk gt and radical in the same sentence and compare handeling. I would sugest you do some research on the lap times of
jon isons car in the 750 rgb. And then look at the radical clubsport's that can be brought for 4.5k and then road registerd so say 6k on the
road.
cheers matt

Yea right!
Had a look around, a used Radical club sport will set you back closer to £10k. Can't find anything less than £9k.
Unless you have a source?

Procomp, wasnt suggesting the GTR was as good, just asking "How would the handling compare to, say a LMP or radical?" coz obviously its
half the price so wudnt expect it to
Wat are the essential features that make a car with the same engine so much faster? Rigidity? Cheers

Anyone know where I can find these lap times? Cant find 'em on the rgb site?
Also, does John not run a 'blade engine?

Jon has a Blackbird engine in his GT1. He's made some chassis alterations and put a different body on it since his last offroad excursion as
well. Can you point us towards the times and also towards some of the £4,500 Radicals as the cheapest I've seen is £16,500 and some more in
the region of £30,000 . edit:-
I'm not in the market for one so don't worry if you can't find one, I'd just like to see the difference between the top and
the lower price machines.

HI lap times are on the 750 web site under racing . price of radicals well i guess that the guys that buy them do a few repairs and a bit of tlc and
then sell them for 8-10k are doing it for no profit then . St have a prosport less engine addmitaly for 8k now.
cheers matt
