Re - Test
Now I'm not one to panic ….. but …
I've just been on the blower to Norwich to book in for a re-test, and Trish said ….
See you in the morning.

That's a quick response! At least you won't have a chance to brood about the outcome for weeks on end...

Well they did on Friday.
I took it down to the local garage and they did an MOT on the brakes.
Fingers crossed.

Since I presume I send the paperwork to the DVLA, and that includes payment for road fund tax (ha ha)
do I assume that insurance is the next step?

Nice one!
Yes you'llhave to get it insured on the chassis number. There's a list of what should be sent with the V55 on the form. Insure it as late
as you can as they often limit it to 4-6 weeks before informing them of the reg no (they'll often extend it though if there's a delay
registering).

Paul's carting it around on a trailer, so there's no need to worry about insurance until the DVLA gives him a reg number - no point in
paying for insurance earlier than necessary.

Good point - in that case - don't know! You may well be right... it's been such a long time since I did it (eek! over 10 years!)

Well in a fashion, yes, that is what I mean. you need insurance to tax the car, which you have to do when you register the car, so you need insurance
in order to register the car.

Yup. That's how I see it.
The only thing is, if I take out insurance from say May 1st, will I end up waiting weeks or months for registration?
Thanks for the comments BTW.

I don't think you do, actually, for the first registration. I didn't send any proof of insurance when I registered mine. In fact it was
only on build insurance with specific cover to go to and from IVA, and without a registration can't be on the MID, so the DVLA can't have
known if it was insured or not. It doesn't mention it in the "documents you need to send" IIRC. If you think about it, you
can't get full road cover until you have a reg. number...
ETA well done OP

actually, reading this - https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/new-registrations - i think you are right and that you only need it insured when
registering in NI. Very odd though as this means it is possible to tax it without insurance cover.
