Zetec water pump. To use or not??
This is a 1.8 zetec water pump that I bought new a couple of years ago probably only done about 1,000miles maybe less before I removed it. However I
now need to use it again and its been siting in a damp place in my garage, maybe even getting dripped on. Should I clean it up and use it or buy a
new one £38 from my motor factor

What are the bearings like? if there is any play the seal will soon give way. If they're ok I'd be tempted to spray some lube behind the
rotor so it wets the seal, clean the housing up and risk it. If it shows sign of failure its easy enough to change...

Personally i'd say replace it. You need to fit it prior to the cam belt so if it does have any sort of corrosion that causes a leak it will be a
real pain to replace once the engine is in the car.

I`d bin it - the last new one I bought off fleabay cost me £27 inc. postage......

The pump feels smooth and I cant feel any play.
The engine is in the car already with the belt on. I have changed the arrangement of pulleys so it now drives the other way.
Think I might give it a bash, not a ridiculous amount much hassle swapping pumps.

£27 quid on ebay aint bad, mmm decisions

Yes you should replace it, you will kick yourself if it causes problems later on.

Bought a new one today after telling the motor factor its £25 on ebay he dropped his price to £27.
