oil catch can
Everytime I am stopping the car, smoke coming out of the bonnet air duct. I am always think that the engine is on fire and panic!
But nno it is not a fire it is just the oil fumes. I decided to fit an oil catch can for my own piece of mind.
I know where the fumes comes out from but I dont know where they suppoce to go back in. Can anybody help me in oredr to fit it correctly on a 95
fireblade?
Below I have a pics with a diagram of where I am thinking should go back in. Is it right?

it depends on the amount of oil or smoke coming out. If its lots, like my old crossflow engine, then its best to drain the oil back into the sump
(about half a litre in 10 laps!) If its just smoke, then into the air box is ok. If it were mine id just collect the oil in the catch tank and let any
smoke do what it wants, and manually empty the oil if it fills up.

except of the clutch which is slipping and the brakes which need blidding I dont have any other problems on the car.
The main reason I bought a kit car is to learn how to do things by my self so I dont really bother that a couple of things gone wrong.
Good point about the fire insulation!! I never noticed before, I will sort it right away!
So the feed into the iarbox is the one I pointed on the pics?
I have to fit the oil catch can cause I already bought it..

What is the sump? And where is it?

Yes the car was broke down from a flat battery but it was completly my fault cause I left it for 40 days without start the engine and propably the
previus owner done the same and I ended up buying a new battery.
what I am trying to say is that my kit car is made by hand in a garage and I am expecting things to go a bit wrong once in a while.
I used to have a Renault clio 182 before the mk as a trackday car and was 2004 model, costed about the double and more things gone wrong in the forst
month than the kit car.
I agree that my mk maybe is not the best examples around but I will try my best to become one. Yes maybe I have not a clue how am I going to do this
but I am willing to try and give my striving to become better, with your help ofcourse.
I am appologize again for all my silly questions, and on behalf of my car which needs attention.

So back to the problem, the mist coming out is not that much I think that needs to direct it back to the sump, I think a direction to the intake will
be fine.
Can somebody point on the picture above where to connect the hose on the intake?

if you are going to fit a catch tank then make sure firstly that you attach it securely and two that you check it is not full on a regular basis
My dad crashed out on the devils elbow at mallory when his oil catch tank fell off and covered the back tyres in oil! On a road it could have been
much worse

If you don't need the catch tank, don't just fit it because you've bought it. See if you can get your money back from where
you bought it. Explain to them that it was bought in error, or failing that sell it on e-bay.
Like Calvinx says, just use a length of hose to connect the outlet on the head to the inlet on the airbox.

Bit of a thread hijack (apologies) but is there a crankcase breather on a 5PW R1? I had a look for it a while ago but then forgot about it. I think
there's one on the gearbox but they are usually up on the cam cover.
I would pop into the garage to have a look but I'm stuck in a hotel so I can't
Just a quick comment to get things back on track isn't it bad as far a performance is concerned to recirculate crankcase breathers into the
intake as they contact warm oily air which effectively lowers the octane rating of your fuel and raises intake temps?
Hence people either vent them to air via pipe (frowned on if it breathes a lot as you could be dumping oil on the road) or to a catch tank.a

there isnt enough oil to need one unless the engine is buggered, in which case it wont last long anyway. If you like the shiney bits, either add it as
a fake or get a nice header tank! D:
