EGR constant ticking help please
Good morning knowledgeable people of LCB
Daughters new golf is making a constant ticking noise which is quite loud
it seems to be the EGR soleniod here
Description
Question is - is this likely to just be a faulty solenoid or is it getting a signal from somewhere to tell it to do this?
There is no engine warning light
any assistance appreciated
Cheers
Mooky

Is it the 1.4 16v by some chance?
If it is then I had a look at one of our sales lads cars a few months ago for exactly the same noise.
Turned out the be the tank fuel breather that passes vapor through a charcoal filter to get burnt.
Spoke to the garage and they said ticking was normal but some are noisier than others!
Cheers

I just disconnected the connector to it for a couple of minutes and it stopped, so knew it was that and nothing to worry about, just annoying.

The purge solenoid (nothing to do with EGR) is just as noisy on my wife's Octavia, and always has been.
