Pinto Core Plugs

Started the car today for the first time since the clutch cable went last month, and after about 5 minutes of running, I was getting a lovely plume of steam from the downpipes! Turns out a core plug had got a pinhole and was spraying water onto the exhaust

Anyhow, I've got the old ones out, but my question is, which way round are they supposed to be fitted?

The ones I took out were fitted dome side inwards (i.e. the lip was showing and the plug face recessed into the block. But I have read on one site that they should be fitted domed side out?? Surely that is wrong? I thought that they had a slight flare to the lip so it gripped the sides of the hole?

Any other info please?

While I'm on here, does anyone know which clutch cable would be suitable for the type 9 lever and Sierra pedal?

I have used a 'lash-up' at the moment (which eventually broke!) which used the threaded adjuster at the clutch end and the 'top-hat' type nipple at the pedal end as in the 2 piccies below, and I then ran a bolt through the quadrant on the pedal to fix it to the shaft as the self-adjuster didn't! I really need one around 135-140cm from end to end to make sure I don't have too tight a radius.

Any idea how much Speedy Cables would charge if I cannot get one elsewhere?

Thanks guys and gals

Can't remember which type nof core plug the Pinto lump uses but if they are the type like a dished circle then the raised part goes to the outside of the block and it is held in by drifting it in the center to distort it and tighten. The other type is like a short section of blanked off tube in which case the blanked end goes into the the block first, Clean the recess in the block before fitting

As for the clutch cable if it's using a Sierra pedal unmodified and a standard type 9 lever why reinvent the wheel? Burtonpower website lists clutch cable lengths

It's not a standard setup for the clutch, the self adjuster was naff, so I fixed the quadrant by bolting through it and the pedal, then using the threaded adjuster at the clutch end to take up the slack. Worked fine, but the end I had on the pedal before was the standard eyelet type and the modification at that end caused the cable to snap at the ferrule. The AA fitted a temporary barrel with a grub screw in each end and this fitted under the quadrant where the 'top-hat' end would have gone.

If that all makes sense?
