prop adaptor removal? or issues

My car starting making a random clunking noise, and now having taken the engine out of the car, is looks as if there is slight movement in the prop adaptor (from side to side) - only about 1 mm but at BEC revs this I would have thought is a no no?

So apologies for the dumb questions, but as I did not put the car together, how do I remove the adaptor? looks like it has a washer or a piece of metal bent at the base to stop it from working loose.

Picture is in my archieve - as I still have not managed to work out how to upload to the forum.

Cheers
Craig

That is the tab washer that you cam see bent up onto the fkat of the nut. Tap the tab back and undo the nut.

prop adaptor
prop adaptor

here you go

ps the prop wont be going any faster in a bec than a cec (diff ratio being the same, etc) as the prop rotation is in relation to the rotation of the road wheel

As Owelly says, tap the washer flat then remove nut, you will probably need an impact gun to shock it loose rather than trying to get a socket on it and stop the shaft rotating at the same time

+1 with that, i even had the guys at DF telling me that probs wear out faster on BEC because of the high rpm

Cheers folks,

I took the adaptor off this morning and could find no play in the actual output shaft. so I popped the adaptor back on and tightened it up nice and tight and bingo - no more movement - it would appear that the sprocked adator nut had beome a fraction loose - is this common?

Or am I clutching at straws and just not wanting to break the engine down.

Cheers
Craig

i believe that it is a common problem with bec that the prop adaptor securing nut comes loose and then the prop falls off and removes whatever it comes into contact with
