custom airbox... im stumped and skint!
hi guys my first post used the forum for info loads
i have a mk3 capri 2.0 pinto on a set of 1986 Kawasaki GPZ 1000 RX bike carbs
i would like to have an airbox, but i cant find a way to mount it to the carbs without buying 55mm silicone hose then somehow joining it to a box (all
ending up expensive)
do you reccomend running with trumpets? and where do you get them?
iv seen a few pics but i cant see how you have connected the airbox to the carbs and sealed it?
i would want to run a cold air feed to an enclosed box if possible like in this fellas post
locost link
so can anyone tell me (or even better post some piccies) on how they have done this?
thanks

The the rubbers that originally attached the carbs to the airbox in the bike. These usually fit into circular holes in the airbox, which makes things
nice and simple.

ha the one thing i cant find on its own.... got to buy a whole airbox
there no way to do this with true lowcost fashion?
with the rubbers do you mean the hole in the airbox is as clost to the size of the rubbers O.D as possible so as they hold it in place? of are they
held in place another way?
thanks

Expensive? You just need to find the right diameter for your carbs.
This FZS600 FZS 600 FAZER 2000 5DM AIRBOX & RUBBERS | eBay for instance is cheap and there are lots and lots about in
this price range....

On mine (cbr 600 carbs) the trumpets unscrewed and I made the holes the same size as the carb holes. The ally plate then was held on by the trumpet
screws.
No pictures of the back plate but these might help?

these are the carbs
the stock rubbers are just held on with jubile clips, so the airbox would just be held on with the clips...
i guess i could get universal cone filters, and build the air box onto the back of the cone? #[{>
# is the carb
[ is the box
{> is the cone
hope that makes sense!!

Not sure about the carbs that you have, gsxr airbox is around £20 (less if you wait).
Maybe some ideas on building a cheap airbox in this thread.

thanks for that gave me some ideas, got to adjust the floats as the into sits at an angle ant the lower carbs are pushing fuel out through the jets
when at idle.. well that what i think is going on anyway!

Is that one of my manifolds?
Have you had the carbs running and on the road? Just wondering what they're like as I've just aquired a couple of sets to build into kits.

Would these do? They can be restrictive flow wise but only on a full on tuned pinto.. Cheap, postage isn't tho.
Just measure the mouth of trumpet and get ones that fit.

yea i have, they where not setup correctly but even then they made such a diiference! throttle was snappy, and at full throttle they sounded the
balls! (and went dam well!)
not sure mate, they are a bit of a pig to setup, ended up adjusting floats on the no.3/4 carbs as they are sat lower so where overflowing.... jetting
wise standard jets will get it running, the slides need to either be filled with lead and drilled or the spring pushed down with washers in the cap
otherwise the slide lifts to fast and just spits fuel everywhere, trial and error, but that just my experence, what carbs are you planning on using
for yor kits? have you build/tuned any yet?
tools that have been indispensible:
gunson color tune
carb balancer
fuel flow meter
fire extingusher... lmao

yea but i have been told that economy will suffer without airbox, and airbox creates resonance with will hopfully inprove things further+ can route a
cold air feed straight into it?
will have alook tho thanks!
