Making engine mounts out of the Escort cross member?
Just about to make up my engine mounts.
Maybe it's the bodger in me,  but I'm tempted to try to chop up the Escort engine cross member and re-use that rather than fabricating
the mounts from scratch.
Has anyone else done this - if so did it work OK or will I be wasting my time?

IMO It's easy enough to make your own and hence fit the engine nicely.
Also it might get in the way if you modify the sump to improve ground clearance. You might want to compensate for the reduced volume by deepening the
front of the sump, except you can't; your cross member will be there.

I tried to modify the existing engine mounts from my rx7 and use them, and did it without a problem. I wasnt happy with the final height of the
engine, and decided to try and make a set of custom engine mounts. Took almost the same amount of time, and I was much happier with the way they look
and the height of the engine.
Here is a photo of the almost complete mounts, after this photo I ground out some of the welds which I wasnt happy with, and re-welded them better.

All you need is a couple of bits of 50x3mm box section and 4x 3mm plates with some holes in them.
Was one of the few bits that was easy and went well!

This was shiny new 45x3mm RHS found at scrapyard and 3mm plate. Put the engine where you want it and fill in the space with metal.
