Windscreen Supports

I am at the stage of fitting my windscreen now but the two side supports have sharp edges..... Any advice on how to get a professional radius finish suitable for IVA?

thanks

I'll kick off the chorus... 1, 2, 3: "don't fit the screen until after IVA". If it's not there, it can't be found to have sharp edges

Exactly, fit the windscreen, wipers, washer jets and demisters after IVA

I agree with above ^^^ with the only proviso don't bother with the demister, a total waste of effort. Cheers Ray

If steel, angle grinder for rough radius followed by file, less rough, Dremill with sanding tube, then wet and dry.
I also coverted an Ally pre SVA windscreen surround by filing then sanding and polishing.

Then decided NOT TO FIT untill after SVA.

Must get round to fitting the wipers.

No demisters but have an asmatic hot air blower that can be stuck to the scuttle if the screen got misted up that bad, I would then just drive on to the nearest safe stopping point.

To get an even rad I find it best to do it in stages, with a file or flap disc in a grinder.

Firstly take off the corners at 45deg.

Then take off the four points to give a roughly rounded shape.

Then a quick rub over with emery on a block for the final finish.

See pic

^^ I did as 907. Also fitted before SVA, and happy I did, but it is more points to fail on and more work (I did get a first time pass so it is possible!). If you don't fit before you will need to plan carefully to make sure it will all fit after, demist, wipers ect. In this respect it's a lot easier to fit before the IVA.

Not sure I agree with others about the de-mist. Not fitting a de-mist when you have weather gear is probably a mistake, (it's going to mist up as soon as it rains).

Maybe no-demist make sense if you have side screens and no weather gear??

Thing is if you are going to fit a screen surely the idea is to have weather gear? Other wise you may as well have an aero-screen??

Thanks guys for all the advice.... To be honest the decision is already made that I will go to IVA with the screen fitted... I have already fitted the demister and wiper assy so pretty much decison made.

thanks

^^ I would put though IVA as you, but if you chicken out you can always remove and fit rubber blanking grommets over the holes. Finish it with that in mind in case you have a problem (i.e. don't fix any screen related stuff permanently, I would think you could leave the de-mist in place without a problem though).

could you put it through at iva and if they want to fail it, on a 5 min break take it off?

I have full weather gear both a soft top, and a hard top, and the screen has never misted up yet. But I do have a nice bit of shammy in the car just in case. Oh! and I do use the anti mist RainX stuff, forgot that, Cheers Ray
