Lotus/Westfield XI
Firstly my apologies if this is the wrong section
I've fallen in love with the above car to the point where it keeps me up at night trying to figure out how I can get one. AFAIK westfield have
stopped manufacturing the kits? I cannot afford the £15k+ they (probably quite rightly) command if/when they do come up for sale so how else can I get
my mits on one?
There's a video on youtube of some guy scratch building his but I wouldn't know where to start. I have considered buying an older
westfield 7 and trying to modifiy it to suit but im not sure how similar/compatible the chassis' are? Theres the GTS challenger plans but from
what i've read Darren's reputation isn't the best and i've read of the troubles with the monoshock rear and the wishbones
hitting the shock body
I cannot weld but am willing to learn, however I've looked into night classes but these are aimed at becoming qualified which probably exceeds
my requirements? How else can I learn?
I am fairly competant with solid works and sheet metal design and have access to a clarke mig welder so maybe some small practice projects?
The other concerns are sourcing the bodywork and i'd like an alternative engine to the 1.3 A series. I've been thinking a RX8 rotary would
suit quite well but i'm not sure if it would fit under the slimline bodywork?
My apologies if this comes across as a drunken ramble (which it is) but any thoughts/help would be very much appreciated,
Regards,
Rob

I read here that they're only making 50 and I read on WSCC that the 49th was sold on
15/6/2006 so just assumed they've all gone. I've
asked for the info/pricing pack and not received anything so assumed they're finished with the XI?

Hi Trev,
Do you still have copies of the plans and also contact details for Mike? Out of curiosity how much is a part built kit worth?
Thanks,
Rob

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

If you've fallen in love with the 11 I think you would be dissapointed with the Challenger as it really is a 15/11 lookalike rather than a
replica.
More Challenger Pics.
Outside Norwich SVA Centre
We parked next to a Westfield and it's tiny in comparison but Tim's Challenger is a lot quicker as the Westfield is only based on the
"A" series engine.
Don't know where you are but if you are local(ish) you are welcome to come and have a look, sorry but I'm busy at wk till after Xmas tho.

Hey Rod,
I've just finished reading your build diary and its your videos on youtube that I mentioned. The car looks amazing and I wish I had a 1/100th of
your skills
Nick: Thanks for the offer but unfortunately im a bit too far away (Hull). From looking around yours is the second one that i've seen finished.
I also note you've ditched the monoshock infavour of the DeDion. I read there were concearns over shock body/wishbone interference on the blue
car has this been resolved?
Contaminated: Yea the ERA 30 is really nice too but its £18k+vat for the kit?

I believe ours was the 2nd built and put through SVA.
The rear is now supplied with a DeDion set up and I have to say it appears to work very well, the springs are close on the ft. but don't touch
even with them wound right up to get the head lamps high enough for SVA.
All in all it was a fairly straight forward build except the body which, amongst other things, was at least 2" wider on the N/S than the other
& needed the arches "stretching” to clear the wheels.
