Show off your exhausts!

Afternoon everyone, I'm in an exhaust quandary at the minute.

I want to get the car out and on the road ASAP but that doesn't mean I want to compromise on the look and feel of the car, so I'm trying to come up with a cost/attractiveness compromise.

I like the idea of a bike can financially, but fear sometimes they can look "thrown on", and I like the Dax Stainless system but cant stomach the costs.

My current thinking is that bike exhaust systems look more aggressive/sporty when you use a short link pipe?

e.g. This would be perfect..

Can I see other peoples exhausts (and costs if possible) to help me decide? I'm looking around the £400 mark.

TL;DR Show me your exhausts!

ETA - I dont know whos this car is above, but it's close to what I want mine to end up like

I have 3 cans I can switch between, the cheapest being an R1 can, the most pricey being a CBS 7" can. Personally, I prefer the larger can for look and sound. It was used for SVA, so noise is ok. The only downside is the cost - £200!

I think really stumpy cans/short link pipes look a bit odd, but they do make it less likely for your passenger to burn their legs!

yes i have a wonky xe

I have a STD calibra manifold cut just below the 4-2 part and turned through 180 deg so it points out the side of the car, not great for performance but cost me nothing as the manifold came with the engine and there is only a single hole in the bodywork so if i change manifold its not much of a problem

Heres mine:

V8 Megajolt Installation 4
V8 Megajolt Installation 4

Home made repackable silencers, passed SVA with a couple of dB's to spare.

4" inch pipe and perforated pipe from custom chrome
2-4" taper sections and 90deg bends from HPE
total cost was about 100 quid total for both

If I'm honest I would probably like the silencers to be a little larger but I'm pretty happy with them esp as I was limited on space because I wanted long primaries

If you are interested there are some build pics here: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=115014 showing how i made them.

I'm trying to avoid using the standard manifold Tom, but I do like your link pipe/bike can setup. Ideally I'd match something similar to that with Dans primaries.

On which note, Dan, Those long primaries look special, does it do anything for or against performance?

I was going to go with 907, but my dad has vetoed the brushed stainless finish, he wants shiney or carbonfibrey apparently

for what it's worth, here is mine.

just got an R1 carbon can off ebay so will look to fit that on, no doubt there will be posts about where to buy stainless wire for MIG welding and to buy short length of stinless pipe .... Rescued attachment DSC03346.JPG

I made them sing an online calculator, I'm not an expert so I just followed the instructions.

As it is a V8 i wanted peak power made at 5-5.5K, and the lower the RPM the longer the primaries need to be apparently.

They seem ok but I haven't got another exhaust to compare with.

Cheers,
Dan

Slightly OT since its a BEC but the thread is titled "show off your exhausts!" so here goes.
All our own work.
Full Titanium system made for less than £120 but more like £2K if you include the work time involved!
Uses two standard 929 blade Titanium header sets and a ZX9 standard can. Cut the headers into straights and bends and start from there. Collector was very difficult as Ti doesn't seem to like being bent.
Welding is easy according to Eldon, just pay attention to your purge.
You could conceivably make a CEC exhaust from the same constituent parts although the header ID may be a little on the small side for some tastes.
Geoff.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Cheers for the pics everyone! thats a very twisty one Blake, I guess some serious design work went into that!

Just to clarify my thoughts on 907, although very affordable, Pauls complete systems at £550 are a smidge outside my price range and my Dad owns a 1/3 stake and he has said he doesnt want brushed stainless unfortunately.

I would still like to see your exhaust though rusty

You own a 2/3rds stake. You can out vote him.
