Cleaning alloy castings
Is there a chemical cleaner for alloy castings or do i have to resort to scotchbright pads and brushes.
Ive cleaned my carbs and manifold with degreaser but they still look a bit tatty.

Try cheap gunwash thinners if its still available, I think it may be available at some kit car shows if you have any trouble getting it , also proper
carb cleaner is brilliant stuff , should be able to get that from halfords etc. Rusty

put them in the dishwasher
I did and my carbs and manifold look like new

Cleaning alloy castings
Well I got some carb cleaner and it works quite well at getting all the glaze and dirt off , but i think I will still have to buff them up a bit.
PS: My dish washer says she won,t wash my carbs.....

My wife says the dishwasher is not for carbs!
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

Nitromors paint stripper works well on some of the more 'stubborn' stains
Shame it also tends to dissolve the dishwasher

Do the gaskets/plastic bits tend to survive this process?

My carbs and manifold were stripped back to bare shells
And wait for wifey to go to work and bung them into the dishwasher
she will never know !!

oven cleaner works great- just dont leave it on too long or it will eat the ali. My wife only complained when i baked the hi temp paint on the
cylinder head and intakes in the oven.

Slightly off topic, but this is how I stress relieved my wishbones before cutting out the centre section

A couple of questions for Mark ref wishbones:
1) Do you need to use tin foil, and what do you baste them with?
2) Which veg is most suitable?

Hey Mark, just curious as to how long you left them in for and how you cooled them. I am using bronze bushes so I have no room for missalinement
your methood looks like it may help in getting a finished true part.
