I have jenvey TB's with 90mm trumpets and have a large pipercross air filter with back plate etc for them.

Problem is they don't fit, the top of my chassis is too close for me to get the filter over the trumpets.

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion of what type of filter would be best with limited space. I ask because the sock type would fit most easily but i hear they restrict airflow and therefore reduce torque.

The air flow into a trumpet flows from behind the back edge of the trumpet so restriction in that area will effect flow. I have measured this effect on my car as usually the engine from Toyota has a sealed airbox. That won't fit so for a while I had socks.

So an air box with a cone filter sealed to the outside to feed cold air is ideal. This is also reduces induction noise (sacrilege I know), a recent problem appearing as the noise limits gert ever restrictive!

Having posted the above I realised your 90mm trumpets are quite long so the airbox idea may be more difficult.

have a look a the picture below. this is the Toyota engine with factory ITBs but minus the airbox. not the clearest picture but the trumpets actually bend down and twist!! You look at them and think they shouldn't work but they are remarkable close to a straight trumpet. Put a sock on them though and you instantly effect the power.

I had a similar problem with a pair of webers in my Cat. There we obtained a blank back plate and cut the mounting holes as close to the edge as the trumpets would allow this just allowed enough clearance,
