Alloy sump
flak monkey - 23/5/06 at 05:42 PM

Ok so i just got hold of an alloy sump from a 2wd cossie/rs pinto for £31... No pickup pipe, but i can mod mine.

Someone please tell me that all the alloy sumps are shorter than the steel ones? I dont have my steel one here to measure. I think they are...just want to check.

Cheers,
David

I'm not so sure that the sierra one is any shorter, but its a long time since we had the cossie so I can't remember!

does it have the ally wings on it? If so then it should be a touch shorter. That said the Ally RS ones weren't ever that shallow, just much less prone to surge cos they were better baffled.

Having said that, if it is no shallower and it is the same as an escort rs one, then baffle a steel one and flog the ally one, they fetch £150 on ebay!!

The RS one is shallower than a steel pinto one, there is not a lot of point making it much shallower anyway, the bottom of the bell housing is about level with the bottom of the RS sump..

I have just measured my RS2000 and the critical depth dimension is 160mm from engine mating flange to the bottom of the sump.

I have a nasty feeling that the 2WD cossie sump is just a alloy version of the normal steel one and is no shorter, Hope i'm wrong though!!!!

Cheers,

The Baron

Thanks gents. Probably no shorter than my steel one then. Will have a measure when it arrives.

Anyone happen to know how deep the std sump is?

I can get my steel one modded easily enough, just thought an ally one would be nice

Here is my RS one, its slightly lower than the type 9 bell housing. I think there is a variety of depths of pinto tin sumps, I believe the capri may be a short one. Rescued attachment sump.jpg
