x/flow to zetec or similar
steve m - 5/9/04 at 05:25 PM

I have now decieded that 1700 xflow is to boring, and I am thinking of something, a little bit more modern!!

does anyone know the sizes of a 1600 zetec compared to a 1600 xflow
most important one would be the center of the crankshaft to the highest point of the engine, also does the zetec bolt straight on to the type 9 gear box ??

any other info that is related to this swop would be usefull

Not sure of sizes sorry, but the type 9 does bolt straight on, same bolt pattern, it's only the duratec which changes bolt patterns

The Zetecs are quite tall ,bob and I have been doing a bit of research, + you got the expense of fuel and sparks systems. Rescued attachment zetec dimensions 2.jpg

It's probably a very sensible conversion - got to agree with your logic.

Some pointers.

1) It bolts right onto your type 9.

2) Your existing xflow tubular exhaust can very easily be modded to fit the zetec using a later zetec exhaust flange.

3) Cheapest way to get sparks is to buy an off the shelf built megajoltlitejunior and plug it up to an edis module. Triggered direct off the zetec flywheel. Mapped ignition for not a lot.

4) Burton power are very cheap for twin weber inlet manifolds.

5) A 1600 zetec sump is dead easy to tweak to fit a starter to fit.
See Here

All in, I reckon I could get one installed and running for under 500 quid.

But then - I'm Scottish

Nothing wrong with being Scottish we're just thrifty not miserable

Too true

P.S. Remember the place in bonnybridge I mentioned - Propshaft services ?

It's still there - I was past it tonight. So if you're going to be needing a prop, they might be worth speaking to.

I'm not Scottish but I am Thrifty, thats why I've got a LOCOST.......Mind you coming from 'The Hamilton's' it makes you wonder.........ock eye da noooooo....

Steve,

I don't know what the BHP figures are but will you get enough out of a 1600Zetec to beat the 1700Xflow enough to be worth the time/effort.

Wouldn't the 1.8 or 2.0 be a better choice- and presumably they're equally easy to install arn't they?

Cheers,

James

Dunnell reckon on around 120bhp out of an otherwise stock 1.6 on webers and free exhaust.

I have to agree - 2.0 is the one to get and use 1.6 bits to make it an easy install - sump and water pump.

I would like to go 1800/2000, but imagine that the block is to tall

has anyone got the crankshaft middle to highest point ? for a 2000

I thought thats what I posted Steve?

steve m - 7/9/04 at 07:36 AM

Dave

a stupid question !! are the drawings for a 2000 zetec ??
if so it will just fit in
also which type of zetec as there are definently two types

I think the external dimensions for the Zetec are all the same - the stroke is identical, it's only the bore that differs.

The earlier 2.0 ltr from a Mondeo is probably the easiest to use as the sump will fit or easily modded to shorten. The later two piece (alloy/pressed steel) sump needs to be modded to get the starter to fit. There is a big difference between the 1600 found in Puma etc and 1800/2000 found in Mondeo/Escort/Focus.

As a reference the pics of mine on the photo archive shows a "94 2.0ltr from a Mondeo.
