Can anyone recommend an alternator for a duratec build. Locost option prefered!!

Cheers,

Neil

No such thing as a locost option when installing a Duratec -I should know.

You need a Nippon Denso Alternator 40amps such as the one sold by Brise. I couldn't get anything else to fit between the chassis rail and engine. I suppose that would depend on relative position of triangulation and engine.

They are only 100mm diameter so easily fit anywhere.

I'd say cheap and very much cheerful would be the loathed Lucas alternator ( ). In my conversion from Pinto to Duratec kept mine to the keep the cost down and save on wiring changes (minor reason):

Top adjuster came from Tiger and bottom mount I made myself. Sorted the rest of the auxilary drive belt set up myself - all working well for the last 4 months and a fraction of the overall cost

Off the shelf alternator/aux drivebelt set ups can be significant money (see Raceline etc.).

Yep, Honda Prelude 2.2 is the smallest Denso I could find. Paid a tenner for one off ebay when I did mine.

Pics in my photo archive in the duratec folder.

I initially went for a low cost option using a Micra alternator pictured below utilising a focus spring loaded tension pulley.

Unfortunately was too big so changed it for the smaller denso unit, made all the brackets myself.

I got the Denso unit from ebay for £62.00 so not too bad.

Think the belt arrangement is much simpler with unit on intake side however.
