Following on from a past post I wondered what the cause and fix would be on this.
3000GT Timing
The belt has quite a bit off play in it maybe 1/2" to 3/4" so in my eyes I reckon that there's been a failure with the tensioner and
the whole thing'll have to come apart with the tensioner having to be replaced and the belt reset. Kind of just checking that I'm thinking
right and it isn't a case of just hopping it a tooth back.
i get a similar thing when i do the timing on subarus from a new belt. one pulley never lines back up, the only way i have managed to get it perfect
was with a vernier pulley set.....
if you have that much play there may be something amiss, maybe the tensioner bearings have collapsed?

I should add that at the moment the car is lacking any power and is occasionally backfiring which I am putting down to the above.
I'd take it apart and mount new belt, tensioner and pulleys.

As mention above
You will have to adjust the pulley, fit a new timing kit.
I would not think that you need Vernier pulleys as i assume you just want the original settings.
Jup it's a pain. I usually take a dozen goes to get it right and then take it apart again because I can't believe it's really right!! From the photo's it looks as if it should be possible with perseverance.
Sorted. Spoke with the owner and explained that it's best to get the tensioner replaced and that the job isn't really feasible doing it on
his driveway with basic tools. It's off to the garage.

looks like the cam on the right is a whole tooth out. i would get a new belt, tensioner and pulley move the right cam back a tooth and put the new belt and bits on.
