HELP!!
Its SWIMBO's birthday in a fortnight.
I've promised that i'll take her away for a long weekend to "Europe".
Where should I go for 3 nights?
I'm thinking hot, or interesting, or romantic.....and a max of 4 hours on a plane so we don't lose 2 of the 3 days travelling. I'd be
grateful for any advice or inspiration, as we're both poorly travelled within Europe so anywheres a possibility....
Thanks in advance
Colin
Interesting...Berlin
Romantic...Paris, Cologne (Koln)
If you don't mind the cold, there's also the Ice Hotel (Sweden, I think)
Take a look on lastminute.com, there's sometimes come good ideas there....
Interesting & romantic = Florence, Italy.
Ryanair do cheap flights to Pisa, then I recommend car hire at £25 a day from Hertz/Avis, etc. and drive through there.
I took my wife for her birthday in November and she loved it. Should be a lot less tourists at this time of year.
barcelona !!! , well thats where my missus wants to go !!!!
Paris is good - romantic, interesting, and you can walk round all the significant bits. Bit of a tourist trap, but it's not too hard to avoid
that nonsense.
Downside is the weather, which is roughly the same as London!

I'm just back from Praque.
what a great city, very cheap.
Well worth considering
Iceland? Hot spring pools, weird landscape, Northern Lights?
You can get some cheap flights on http://www.icelandexpress.com/
Took minne to Sardinia for b'day
Recons best ever and she's well travelled in Europe.
Bonus is amazing roads so hire car recomended.
I'll second Prague - geat place and cheap too... just watch out you don't get caught letching at those local women - Damn their gorgeous.!...
Took mines to paris last june for 3 days. I don't do romantic apparently. It was well humid though ( worse than Florida) at that time of
year. I didn't think I'd like it but I was amazed at the sheer scale of the architecture.
So apart from the french it was gr8t
I wanted to take mine to Chernobyl....
but I was too late booking up.
The concrete had already set.

Sardinia is a good call. If you don't mind the cold then what about Krakow. Fantsatic city.
I didn't think Prague lived up to the hype. Cheap beer, yes. But too many tourists and too many stag parties.
What about Ljubljana in Slovenia. We went in late August for a couple of nights and it's a lovely place. Cheap flights from one of the London
airports.
Bad photo of ljubljana below

If you dont mind cold have you thought of Dublin ? Great party atmosphere for couples........
Le Mans
barcelona........
nice and warm still this time of year (well, errrm, warmer than the uk)
fantastic city, i'd love to go again.
Very beautiful, lots of shopping, fantastic football team, great history and architecture, gorgeous spanish women - what more do you need?
I'm probably wrong but doesn't France (Paris) shut down in the winter for tourists? i.e. hotels and restaraunts?
No - it shuts down in the middle of August! All the city dwellers head for the countryside...
I'd second Prague (lots of old stuff to see) or Cologne (great for shopping and excellent German food and beer). We stayed in the 5*Hotel Ernest in the middle of Cologne and got a half price deal - beautiful hotel.
Thanks for the ideas, I will start looking at some of them tomorrow.
The Ice Hotel sounded good but is £££.
We've been to Dublin, Sardinia is a poss if its warm its a bonus. As said we'll be actually going in mid January.
Any more?
Cheers
Rome is a great place. A lot of atmosphere, romance etc. Not hot in Jan though.
Another for Prague...
As a regular over there - avoid the weekend if you can as already stated - the brothels/pole dancing bars attract Stag Parties. Dunno why as it is the
capital for AIDS in Europe.
Beautiful country steeped in history and nice people too - but damned the girls, they are truly gorgeous!
If you like culture, architecture and some fantastic views then Vienna is hard to beat. Went there about 7 years ago and want to go again. There is
a very tall tower (the Danube Tower, 352 meters high) with a rotating restaurant at the top from where you can see most of the city and the Danube
stretching into the horizon.
A 360 degree panormaic view can be found at:

(obviously that is a 360 degree panorama munged into a straight picture, so looks a bit odd)

I decided on .....Rome!
The hotter places were getting out of reach for a short trip but will bear them all in mind, we're going to start ticking some of them off
soon.
Thanks again all.

You won't regret it. Rome is a great place with loads to do and see. Good food too!
