So I just bought this, 1974 XJ12L Rust free, clean interior, 57K miles (documented) but the V12 has been swapped for a 5.7 ltr chevy V8. All for a
mere $500. That's 260 GBP at today's exchange rate....

i hope you're gonna tear it apart and make it into something nice
nothing wrong with the lines of this car.
Anyhow a good buy i would say!
it might just be the angle of the photo and the colour of the paint, but it almost has an Allegro-esque look about it.

How dare you sir !
i like the chevy exchange idea but i bet its got a standard dodgy 3 speed auto box,
i met a bloke once who moved from york to the states and had two V12 xjs's cos he could afford to run em out there...but they had to have general
motors auto boxes cos of some law in the states...
dunno why
Hehe Nick, I thought it was the Allegro Vanden Plas
WHAT?! ALLEGRO!? MAXI!? Are you all blind or summat, or to quote Tony Hancock "have you gone ravin' mad?". The series one XJs rank as
one of the best-looking large saloon cars ever produced, period!
When you consider that the 2-door version of that Jag was raced by Broadspeec in the 70s and looked like this
......I'd say you lot need some aesthetics upgrades in the grey matter!

dunno about a law, but jag only sold about 250 manuals in the first three years of production and then deleted the manual in the case of the xj-s. the
auto box is i think more in tune to the nature of the american market - where 50% of the production went in those days.

They might have been raced in the '70s by Broadspeed but they didn't exactly win a great deal. As for buying a rust free one, somebody must have messed up at the factory when it was made.

i dunno if it's any good car but that series Jag is a damn good looking car!
Cita, I always liked the early XJ styling. As this one has the chebby engine and 4 speed GM auto box conversion and is rust free, seemed like a good
deal. The brakes had just been replaced (new discs and pads) And if all else failed I've got some great donor parts....
D.
If you use it as a daily driver for only one year you have recuperated your investment fully i would say.
Good purchase:period
