Hi,
This looks like a great forum! I’m new to this site but I’ve started a Westfield SEi restoration so thought this a great place to visit for research
and advice on parts of the car that need a revamp/rethink.
If anyone is interested I’m adding the restore diary to YouTube to chronicle my progress
https://youtu.be/sg8Yolf-hxc
Keep up the good work, I'll be a frequent visitor;o)
Welcome! Yes it is. Just a bit quiet with christmas shopping I think.
Dont think you can go wrong for that money though.
Look forward to seeing the (pro) progress
That’s an absolute bargain and a great project a complete strip down a shot blast powder coat and start again look forward to seeing it progress.
Looks a good project at a very good price. That's a £10K+ car once properly sorted
A mate has a very similar spec Westy (C20XE, ITBs etc) albeit in better shape.

Thanks hopefully some TLC and elbow grease can start the fight back to former glory:0) I see you have a Haynes roadster? I bought the book with good intentions, the westi will be my substitute project;0)
has it been on fire?
only watched every 10th frame coz i'm at work
Ha ha did you really send him the mug?
Looks like that car has been sat out under a sheet for a while.
But as above,its a bargain for £2.5k.
One request if possible, more footage of actual work on the car in future episodes please, less of the 'I'm a youtuber I love the sound of my
own voice' footage!

Be well worth you joining the Westfield Club, they have massive knowledge on the forum and great local area meets/runs out

Hi
For anyone who's interested I've stared putting things back together, and started tinkering with that Vauxhall Redtop engine. Please see my
latest video below. I'm going to start picking your brains as I've got some tricky jobs coming up;O)
Thanks
JK

Coming up well
Still say the screen supports/surround should have been powder coated black though
I must admit one pulled into a garage next to me yesterday with all black parts and a full roll cage with a hard top and it did look EPIC....It was food for thought!!!!! Once she's fully up and running i might make one or two mods, and she's crying out for stripes I reckon
Also, couldn't you have had the chrome headlamps powder coated to help with the budget?
Nar i considered it but they were too far gone. might be an option for those rusty wishbones though!!!

Yeah wishbones need some love
Just won a set on EBay so these will transform the car

Maybe it was cheap because of the colour lol. It wouldn't have been my first choice
I'm making inroads into understanding some of the problems this car has been suffering from.
I've added the link to the latest video below for anyone interested
https://youtu.be/B12DvmgrSSs
Fingers crossed you find the dodgy connection easily enough on the dash!
Thanks for the tips I've had on here, really helped me out. I've got my dashboard all sorted now so ready to be refitted.
See me latest video for anyone interested;O)

Just watched and enjoyed first episode...
look forward to seeing the resto
Thanks mate, episode 9 coming next! We finally tackle those rusty wishbones soon;O)
Dash looks great - if you don't mind me asking where did you get the Dash lights - looking for something similar but all I can see are the billet
aluminium switches when I search the web.
Cheers. Andrew
quote:Hi Andrew, cheers she’s coming on bit by bit. I’ve added the link below, I saw the aluminium ones but I wanted to keep with a black theme. They are from an eBay seller who does a few different options.

Very nice work, nice to see you painting/protecting things like the bar behind the dash and steering column

I've been up to my old tricks again, latest video attached for anyone interested. She's coming on ok, dashboard now back in
https://youtu.be/265W6sjqZUg
Looking good
Leave the minilights as they are, yellow my arse!
One little tip before you refit the suspension, paint all the areas on the track rod ends/balljoints that are going to be exposed once fitted
Easy to do now they are nice new rust free metal, they will rust within a few months then you've got to de-rust before painting!

I'm not sure I would be happy running different brands of coil overs front to rear tbh ,perhaps it will be fine, but on these light cars I think
you will be lucky if it is!
Different on heavy tin tops, but the minutest difference on the suspension on these is noticeable

Why would it make any difference what brand they are front to back?

Bound to be a few differences in the valving used/oil etc inside them, never mind the age related wear on the old rears.
The old Westfield supplied Spax are renowned for being very hard.
Here's the latest episode for anyone interested, I enjoyed myself on this one making something from nothing
Cheers

Love the wheels and cringed at your ex lodger
Great set of video diaries. All done with basic tools too. I spotted the dog bone style multi spanner in the footwell on one of the early episodes.
Ive not seen one of those for years.
You defo need a yellow bonnet stripe though......

Hi All,
Here's my latest episode on the Westie for anyone interested, I'm edging closer
https://youtu.be/vWoCxldJT4w
Pretty nice...
Subscribed and given thumbs up.
One question though, why did you used screws insteaad of rivets for the badges?
I hate screws on a car as they have a tendency to fall off and cause punctures...
Keep them videos coming....

Have you used stainless steel bolts holding the wheel on?
Think I would rather have some hi tensile ones tbh, stainless is not very strong.

As above, your not going to be in a good place if your shearing 6 m6 bolts even if there low tensile.

I agree it’s not good engineering practice but I think the alloy washer cups over the counter sinks is worse.
