Wheel courier
cliftyhanger - 17/4/25 at 04:33 PM

I hope to buy a set of wheels (with tyres fitted).
Sadly they are in Dundee, a VERY long way from Brighton.

Does anybody have recent experience/recommendations for a courier? Ideally one that will accept them just in plastic bags etc, the seller really wanted them collected in person so not willing to do "serious packaging"

Cheers etc

I brought a set of alloys for the Jester that had not long been refurbished that had tyres fitted. I was only after the alloys.

Tyre had been stretched on the alloys & well in the expire date IE rock hard.

But keeps the alloys in good nick.

I drove to pick them up 150 miles each way.

I brought a set of new alloys a few months back for the striker they where very well boxed no damage at all

Its all down to the courier firm & the driver on the day with a second hand setup

New alloys it would be a loss of contact for the courier firm if they turn up damaged

It would be over 1000 mile round trip for me. So not at all viable.
Paisley freight seem to be sensible, and a search says they are OK, so probably the way to go. My fingers are firmly crossed!

Have you tried Parcelforce? the wheels and tyres would have to be packaged fairly well but mostly so they don't come apart and get lost. Have used them many times and found them excellent.

IME none will touch them without packaging. Im sending some at mo and had to make boxes up to meet the requirements. Paisley freight will be the likely one i go with.

Last week I sent a Ford Type 9 gearbox weighing 43 kg by Parcelforce for £15.
I put 2 layers of 100 litre black bags bought from Sainsbury's over the gearbox and wrapped
tank tape around it.

On Thursday I sent a pedal cycle weighing 13 kg in a cardboard box I bought on-line with the dimensions
150cm ( the critical one bx 26cm x 100cm for £13 again by Parcelforce.
Go on the Parcelforce website and get a quote for your wheels.

From the paisley site. Sounds like a decent black bag will do? Hopefully with some card taped across the faces. But we know we are in teh lap of the gods when it comes to a remote private seller doing the packaging.

Packaging
Our alloy wheel with tyre service uses our new Unboxed shipping method, we can only provide liability cover for your wheels with tyres if they are enclosed in bubble wrap and then individually packaged into fully structured cardboard boxes, not simply wrapped in cardboard. Please ensure the fascia of your rims are well protected if sending unboxed, these items are sent at the owner's own risk and not eligible for goods in transit liability nor can increased liability be purchased.

MalP - how many gearboxes did you send & do you have any V6 gearboxes left? Happy to consider a swap for a 4 cylinder gearbox

MalP - 20/4/25 at 11:05 PM

Mike

I only had one Type 9 gearbox which was a spare for my Westfield and it was
one from a 1600 Sierra with the short input shaft which would not have
suited your engine

I was joking as the post appeared multiple times saying you'd sold and shipped a gearbox
