I'm working on doing up a 93 Liberty (Legacy in the UK I think) and I can't work out how to fit the front drive shafts I can get them to go
into the side of the transaxel but I can't fell the spline. I have tried to rotate them and I have tried hitting the end with a rubber hammer but
with no luck.
I bought the car with them removed so despite having a manual I just cant work out what I am doing wrong here.
Is there a wire spring clip in a grrove at the leading end of the spline?
If so temporarily remove it and test for fit again. Clips like these are used to retain the spline and need a hard push to compress them.
Are they definitely the right shafts? Sounds silly, but if they weren't fitted when you got the car they may not be.
Is the other end attached to the upright/hub - is it the same length, spline etc?
could be the same as mk3/5 escorts, the planet gears move unless you poke something through them,ie the female splines are not where you need them to
be,start it up and see the contents of the diff exit through the casing.
have a poke around with some wire and a torch.

nope..not on scooby boxes...i have a legacy one sat in my shed.
if its the same...the drive shafts are inner splined..ie, hollow ended if thats makes sense.
the gearbox has splined stubs on each side.
probably needs a good firm push.
i know 96 wrx drive shafts fit the box i have..
edited to add...like the propshaft on a type 9 gearbox
