I used one of those switches (actually a plastic version) in my brake & clutch reservoir - works a treat and dead simple to install.
Just drill a hole in the tank at the desired level and insert the float switch and tighten the nut. Then wire up the switch to a warning light and +ve
feed ..... job done.

The one I used was stock number 338 9722 and was less than £8

part number is 431-8406 ,stainless too
the plastic ones are ok , buti wouldn't risk using one in a fuel tank though!

Both Nylon and PPS are fuel resistant so they would be fine to use in a fuel tank and both nitrile and viton seals are fuel resistant, so this one
would be fine:
338-9750
Its external mount, so you dont need access to the inside of the tank to fit it either.
