Heat Protective Covering
pajsh - 16/5/06 at 09:17 AM

SVA man says my alternator leads are too close to my 4:1 so I need to cover the wires.

Can anyone suggest where I can get some heat protective sleeving.

I've seem some in Vehicle Wiring Products catalog but only good for upto 150 degrees C so not sure if he will be OK that.

I thought of lagging the downpipes instead but not sure if this will help enough and opinion seems divided as to whether it's worth it.

Hi mate

I lagged my downpipes and built a heatshield. One of the members on here had some spare.

You can buy from RallyDesign/BurtonPower etc - quite expensive - or get some from another car in the scrapyard

~Yup this is an early photo - exhaust has more ties on now etc

Im sure you can get heat proof sleeving from RS etc. Not sure what protection it provides.
On my pinto install i routed the wires around the front and along carb side away from exhaust for this very same reason - this might be a locost solution without needing to buy / wait for anything.
