Savage Switches - Remove / install
Acc8braman - 28/8/13 at 04:52 PM

Hi,

Sorry for a numpty question but I need to rewire my rear fog light to meet current IVA regs.

These means removing the Savage switch, so on and so forth.

This is where I stumble over, not having instructions, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how the damn thing is removed!!!

Please can some one help, there must a magical hole or something or other I cannot see

Thanks

Steve

There is a plastic thread on the switch with a metal bush, its behind the dash, unscrew it and it will slip out.

The square switch housing might need to come off first - it's on a barb

James, I see, so I pull on that first then can remove the thread?

Yep, leaves just the barrel AFAIK which will then fit back through the mount hole

Again, one the square bit at the back where the terminals are there shpuld be a barb. If ypu cant find it or it dont just slide off then its been glued on. Happened to two of mine. I had to replace them. They are not xheap.

Hi
This is our switch & wiring

As others have said the square switch section need to come off
first & it is on a barb,
there is a small leg you need to push in whilst you pull the 2 bits appart.
but before you do this you need to disconnect the 2 wires to A&B
terminals, as these are attached to the top removable part of
the switch ( for the switch to light up)
Then just unscrew the ring which clamps it to the dash.
I can see no earthly reason why anyone would glue them in.

Having said all this we did all our dash wiring on the bench which made life a lot easier & used a large connector to attach it to the car, these switches are pretty & fashionable but are poorly designed & not brilliant quality, although none of ours have failed yet.

Switch without the square section

The bit you push to release the barb

good luck
