Where should I put me filler cap?

Come on then, argue this one out. Should I put it in the back panel and cope with the refuelling issues and inevitably covering my feet in petrol every time i fill up? This will keep the boot cover simple to sort.

Or should I put it on the boot cover directly above the filler on the tank and keep the back panel nice and clean? And inevitably fill the boot with petrol on occasion?

I am thinking of on the boot panel. Open to opinions/suggestions though Will also let the sva man see the tanks full, as I dont have a fuel gauge

I can only give my experiences: I have a filler on the back panel, and putting petrol in is a chore. I'm forever squeezing the trigger gently, getting the 'clunk', releasing and re-starting. Takes ages just to get the 25-odd litres in!

If I was doing it again I'd put the filler on the top side panel (the bit that doesn't open).

I would say put it on the top as it does keep the lines of the back panel cleaner. You do realise that by asking this anybody who sees your car and and has posted the place you have chosen will be claiming it was ther idea

Do you have a problem filling cars with petrol? You seem to be worried about spilling it everywhere

put it on the top will be easier and you wont regret it in the long run

from what ive heard it is a pain when on the back like you so so il be putting mine on the top to save the hassel

On the boot panel would be my choice.

Although mine is actually on the tank inside the boot because I'm too careful with my money to buy a fancy filler cap.

Mine is on the back panel and despite the fact that the neck is long enough for the nozzle to go down i still get the 'clunk'.

Mind you my tank barley holds 25litres so on half trigger it doesnt take too long.

With my right foot i seem to spend a lot of time at the pumps, so plenty of experience here!

Think it really depends on the aesthetics more than anything else.

Id put it on the back panel for sure!
The tank only takes a cup full of petrol anyway takes about 90secs to fill up.
I dont have any problems at all with mine mate, doesn't pour out like my 205 does!

If I build another car the filler will NOT be on the back panel !!

You could always be super-clever and put a filler on the back panel that has an internal funnel that slopes down towards the tank, thus eliminating the 90-degree bend that causes all the trouble.

Only trouble is, I've never seen a filler like that...

it looks much better flak if you dont put in the back panel. Make something for the top of the boot, then i can copy it for mine!!

I think a good aero filler looks good on the back panel, though judging by some of the responses, the boot cover may be the more functional route to go!

Mine's on the top - no problem to fill, unlike a Westy I had with the filler on the back panel which took forever.

My boot box is shaped to go round the filler pipe (i.e. the filler is outside the boot box) but I went for a simple rectgangular boot lid with a hole in it to get to the filler cap. Rescued attachment boot cover.jpg

Looks like boot panel it is at the moment. Got a bargain brand new Mocal aerocap from ebay for a tenner, so it looks very snazzy I must say.

Matt, FYI I'll be home a week on saturday, I'll text you over that weekend sometime i should think.

Definatly boot pannel, i fitted mine to the back panel and it is a nightmare to fill, next time i will go for the boot.

Mine's on the bback panel.
I wanted it there despite having the same concerns as you!
I think it look nice there and breaks up the back panel.
In practice it's not that bad, some pumps are easier than others, but once you learn the angle to put the nozzel in it does'nt take long and as said at £20m a fill it's not that bad

Mines on the back panel, but I chopped the rear part and put a 90 degree bend so it turns in immediately, this means that I can effectively fill vertically with no issues as the pump nozzle goes in at 60 degrees.

Boot Lid Panel Dave! every day of the week and three times on a rainy sunday!!!!

But even then, make sure you get it as vertically above the tank neck as possible.

Most modern cars do have very small holes for the filler compared to the 2" hole on my cap. Lets face it, its going to get over filled at some point when I am not paying attention, or get distracted

Zoolander is a very stupid film, and not all that funny IMO
