Brake question

seeing all these brake related questions reminded me of a problem i have, and have tried to ignore till now...
i have a pushrod similar to merlin motorsports one (shown below) and mine is out of a polo = free!
my question though, whats the best method to stop the pedal falling backwards and hitting the floor?
so far i have thought about an extension spring, at ~3/4 extension when the pedal is fully released, and fuly compressed when the pedal is pushed hard.

with this approach, is it best to also fit a bolt the seat side of the pedal to physically stop the pedal falling.

what are the other approaches to this as im running out of ideas.

(oops forgot to mention that my pedals are floor mounted)

the spring in the pic is shown by the yellow, and the bolt in red - classy sketch eh??

Something similar to this should do it, MK brake pedal actually has a stop on the pedal that hits the floor but this pic shows a stop on the acc and clutch pedal that you could use.

I used the bolt method but wonder if this is reducing the strength of the mounting?

i found that the L shaped bar just slipped and if i tightened it up the pedal just stuck.

was i wrong in drilling a 4mm hole in the mounting?

an spring is the best solution.

because it generates an bit of force on the thing, in that way the pedal will be brake ready...

i'm sure it will generate an nice feeling with out lose pedal feeling..etc..

thanks for all your help guys - will have loads to get on with when i next go home in 2 weeks.

think im going to go for the spring idea, with some ally stopper jobbies a la shortie.

you must have some positive mechanical means of stopping the pushrod coming out of the master cylinder, most have a washer & circlip to retain the bulb at the end of the push rod, if it ever did come out because you used a spring, your in trouble
