Hi Guys,
Bit of a query about a mod I want to do to my bike. You see I'm not happy with the back of it, feel its to big, heavy and only want to have a
seat for me rather than the big double thing. I was thinking of cutting the frame where I have highlighted, welding on an end plate (with mounts for a
custom home made seat), then moving the lights to the plate and fitting a grp mud guard to the swing arm. Question is am I just allowed too do this to
a bike frame, no problems with testing or the like. Probably a stupid question really but I'm not sure.
Cheers.

The MOT man won't mind as long as all the lights etc work, the no plate is visible and the tyre is covered.
Your insurer will probably take a controlling interest in you financial affairs though when you tell them you've cut and welded the frame.
I'd say youll have no problem, just weld a section of the (cut off?) tube across the sawn off ends to replace some of the torsional strength lost
by cutting off the back of the frame. Maybe with a triangular strengthening plate welded into each 90 degree angle (between the frame and
strengthening tube).
On more modern monoshock bikes the seat frame does not contribute to the rigidity of the chassis. On yours you'll need the bracing tube across
the back of the shocker mounts where you cut the rear of the frame off.
The seat, mudguard, lights etc are down to you. I've seen some spectacular looking seat units in my time. Probably want to keep it reasonably
sensible to avoid the attentions of plod.
great thanks
Yeah I was going to make sure the strength was not lost when doing this and will keep it all legal.
Job for when I go home
You mean something like this:

Ok, you'll loose probably about 2KG it will still be a CG125, go no faster, probably look no better and it will now have absolutely no resale
value..... so I have to ask......why bother!??
Have you ever ridden a proper bike Mr Whippy.....? CG125s are a great starter bike but there's absolutely no point spending any time or money on
them once you've past your test because there are hundreds of much more exciting and better looking bikes to spend that money on!

I concur with Mr Beddows.
For all those reasons, for god's sake put the hacksaw away.
