Can anyone tell me whether the above mentioned car is suitable as a donor and how much of it is useable please
Thinking of a new project?
Thinking of the next project, the mrs says its ok cause I'm not pissing it up against the wall, ( although might slam it into one)
Well, it's live axled, I know that. The motor is pokey, but I don't know much more than that on it tbh.
Dunno owt about the front suspension either
SO, where in Hants you at then? ANywhere near Portsmouth?
so this going become the cobra?
Only prob I can see is cast iron everything on the engine and probably cast steel gearbox. HEAVY!
Not a 'sprint' by any chance is it ?
16v engine was great..... apparently
(before my time obviously.......)
They tune up nicely!
Rescued attachment PSPRINT.jpg
The 1850 (1.8ltr 8v sohc) is the model below the sprint (2ltr 16v sohc). The problem I would anticipate, depending on the application is that the
engine is a slant 4, it shares the block with early saab turbo's. I image as already said that it would be qite a heavy lump. My dad had an 1850
and a couple of sprints (one of which got rolled) and my first car was a toledo! The gearboxes are 4 speed or a 4 speed overdrive box, on 3rd + 4th
giving six gears in total, overdrive was operated by a switch on end of the gearknob.
Hope this helps,
Ned.
the 2000 sprint had 128hp
the 1850 90hp
20,000 sprint were made.
I had a yellow one (wernt they all) 20 years back

I've used a TR7 2.0 ltr engine in mine, went in a treat, modded the sump, oil filter is remote and the alternator needed modding, gear box (LT77)
5 speed fitted in between the rails with the original mounting.
The sterring columb bolted straight onto the Mk2 ford rack after extending it , no prob.
You can use the axle, I think the wheel PCD is 4.5 inch the same as the MGB.
The front suspension isn't suitable --- the lower ball joint is too puny to take spring loads. Very early Robin Hoods used this front end but
even they abandoned it very quickly --- enough said.
The engine was a slant 4 , not a great engine the distributer gave a LOT of trouble at high mileages causing the engine to idle on 2 cylinders.
As with the Stag head gaskets failled due to the stange way the head is bolted to the block. Alll sort of snake oil "cures" for the head
gasket problem none of which got to the root of the problem.
SABB used this engine for about 5 years before they got Scania Trucks to do a complete redesign to produce a 99.9% new much more reliable unit which
was the basis of the first 99 turbo.
