Blimey, so you're going for a full overhaul then?

The advice I was once given was "unless you're good with differentials the only thing you should do is take the oil drain plug off to replace the oil."



I think you asked about a degree in 'play' in another thread? - This is quite normal in an open type differential.

A puller for that. If don't have a book for the Sierra I can scan the pages and email if you wish.

If you remove that flange you will need a new crush washer and seals. If you dont replace these the play in the shaft will be out of tolerance.

If you take that off (and you do it properly) you'll need to know what you're doing to get the depth of mesh right putting it back together.
The nut (and how many turns you give it) sets the pinion relative to the crownwheel by crushing a bush betweed them.
