Following on from a recent thread, I spoke to a Yamaha dealer today who cant identify which relay is correct for my engine unless I can tell them
what's written on the side of one. As I don't have one with my engine this is a bit difficult!
If you have a 5VY engine with the original relay still in place would you mind taking a look and posting the info here.
I can't offer much in return except the warm feeling you get inside from knowing it'll help another Locostbuilder to start his engine for
the first time.
Thanks
Ben
I'll look tomorrow.
Does it not say on the wiring diagram?
Thanks Adithorp. Appreciated.
Barkalarr - wiring diagram shows what goes where not the part number printed on the relay. Apparently Yamaha don't show it on their diagrams
either, hence the request. The dealer just looks at the one that's knackered and orders a copy. If they don't have anything to look at, they
can only guess which one it is! Its crazy but true. It also includes bulbs too. The dealer was suitably unimpressed.

Hi
We did not use a relay
Just used the Rad sensor to switch fan on & off
Works fine on ours
Waterworks R1 Indy
Good luck
René
Several numbers on it.

Take your pick.
I have got a spare that I could post to you if they physically want to see it. I'd need it back after though as its part of my spares for
touring; If I don't have it it'sbound to be the bit I need.
Thanks for the information guys. Much appreciated. I think its the 5EA bit that they need but not 100%.
I couldn't decide whether the relay was necessary, but there are two wires going to it from the ECU. Interesting that you are running without it
Rene. As the wiring is there I'll get one anyway.
Cheers
Ben
Hi
I'm an old git & for me the simpler the better means less to go wrong
We have a temp gauge & not using the bike sensors
so did not see a need for a relay.
We cut most of the bike wiring out & just left enough to run the engine
& exup motor, the rest of the car I wired from scratch.
Good luck with whichever route you choose
René
If anyone needs this part, according to my local dealer the Yamaha part number for this is 5EA8195020. Please double check though as i haven't
got one to try as yet.
ETA: They are also £21.54 !!!
Rene - I try to follow that approach too! What did you do with the wiring? Just leave it as is or short it out in some way?

Hi
I can see what your getting at , but one live from the fuse box
is not exactly designing and making up a new fan circuit .
Ben
Both Adi & myself are running 5vy R1's and have chosen to stick with the bike relay etc for the fan which is also controlled through the ecu.
I am on my 3rd R1 5VY build and have done them all this way.
Just advice but choice is yours mate!
Davg - the advice is most welcome. The beauty of LB is that people have actually done things successfully before and it doesn't half save some time for the rest of us!
