Iīm thinking of changing engine in my Indy from that old Pinto OHC to maybe a zetec.
How much work is there? I know that the exhaust is on the other side. But how about the engine mounts and will it fit my Type9 gearbox without
problem?
Or another engine that is suitable with the gearbox.
And sorry BEC people, that aint gonna happen

There has been much discusion about zetec installs on this forum so do a search for 'zetec' and you will find all the info you need including web site links for part numbers etc. It's not a huge job but you will need a fair few parts including different engine mounts whci MAC#1 can sort you out with.
The type 9 will fit a treat as the bolt pattern is the same but you will need a starter from a 1800 cvh engine.
I will be performing the same operation next winter as i already have an 1800 zetec and some of the parts needed.
Personally i think the 1800 is the better engine to go for but most go for the 2 litre for more power which is about 165bhp with decent exhaust and carbs/ECU as standard!! The 1800 will be about 135-150 with a similar set up. I'm using bike carbs so i'm hoping for about 150bhp.
What ever you decide it will be a smoother more responsive engine and probably the best engine (imho) for a 7. The 4AGE Toyota engines are also a cracking good choice!
Thanks Andy for a quick good reply. I hope there are a few zetec and Toyota Indys at Stoneleigh for a closer look.
