East Anglian get-together
David Jenkins - 25/3/05 at 10:22 PM

Now that the weather has started to improve, is it time for an East Anglian get-together?

Should see quite a few more cars next time round... preferably somewhere where you don't run out of parking spaces half hour after the appointed meeting time! (sorry, Paul! )

rgds,
David

DaveFJ - 26/3/05 at 12:32 AM

sounds good to me - but then again I will be in Scotland until the 3rd

Danozeman - 26/3/05 at 09:00 AM

I will come without my car as its only a chassis..

907 - 26/3/05 at 02:30 PM

Yup, count me in.

Er, Scotland AGAIN Dave ???

You havn't got a secret second build going have you ?

I hear garages are cheap north of the border.

Paul G

garage19 - 26/3/05 at 04:20 PM

I vote for another Pauly bar b!

Plus we get an update on exhaust can industries!

I am happy to bring along some burgers and drinks to make it a bit fairer on Paul this time.

garage19 - 26/3/05 at 04:23 PM

Or just food for thought.

David, how about the White Horse at Tattingstone. We can have the large grass field/carpark free of charge and it is fairly close to the Essex border?

That's not a bad idea - it's fairly accessable from the A12 and A14, so should be reasonable for quite a few folk...

DJ

garage19 - 26/3/05 at 07:54 PM

I have a limited supply of good ideas so I have to be careful when i use them!

If we give them enough notice we might be able to get the WLM to come for day out?

tractorboy - 26/3/05 at 08:42 PM

i hope to be back on the road shortly as im still snowed under with those little winter jobs that just seem to have an age so far and still going! other than that count me in (he says hopefully!)
scott

David Jenkins - 27/3/05 at 12:09 PM

Well, if we leave it a couple of weeks both Scott and DaveFJ might be able to join us... and it'll give me time to rebuild my dash, which I've just torn out, sawed, shaped and generally abused!

David

tractorboy - 30/3/05 at 02:08 PM

thanks david much appreciated. ive just finished priming the body work and hope to be respraying at the beginning of next week.then just a small matter of putting everything back together.
cheers scott

David Jenkins - 30/3/05 at 08:16 PM

No worries - I'd like to see more predictable weather as well, 'cos I want to take my car to the next outing...

David

santcliff - 31/3/05 at 07:05 AM

Also dashless at the moment. oh, and the new bonnet needs fitting, so i need another weekend.

What happened to the rolling road session proposal? I would be up for that in april/may

stuart

garage19 - 31/3/05 at 11:15 AM

Stuart,

We can still do the rolling road meet if any one is interested?

It would be here

http://www.lorvenperformanceservices.com/home.cfm

Run by a couple of mates of mine. We would get use of their big car park and a free bar b. I recently organised and ran the Pistonheads rolling road there.

Stuart, if you just want a run on your own drop me a PM when you are ready and i will see if i can sort you out a good deal.

I think the White Horse at Tattingstone would make a great venue. If we can come up with a date i will have a talk with the land lady and see if we can get a bar b thrown in???

David Jenkins - 31/3/05 at 11:49 AM

The rolling road would be good, as I'm sure mine needs adjusting. However I'm still running-in the engine, so don't do it too soon!

BTW: How much do they charge for a tuning session?

dj

garage19 - 31/3/05 at 01:05 PM

How many miles are you running it in for??

Shouldn't take more than an hour to run an engine in. If you dont get some decent cylinder pressures early on those rings will never bed in!

I think dyno time rate is £70 +vat an hour.

Why don't we set a date for the Tattingstone meet. Say in a months time?

did someone invite us then or was it just a passing comment

I've done 200 miles with max revs of 4k-ish. Now I'm starting to work up a bit... I'm probably being over-cautious, but after losing oil on the way to the SVA, and a while later losing a lobe on my cam, I'm taking my time. Should be OK now, though.

Not too painful - how long does a tune up take? (finger-in-the-air guess!).

Anyone got any preferences? Sat, Sun, or weekday evening? Speak now or forever hold your whatsit!

Its an official invite!!!

WLM meets EAM if you know what i mean.

Ned, could you speak to you "crew" and see if its viable and get back to us with some possible dates?

White Horse is a nice old country pub (out side toilet!) with a big grass car park/event field.

A bit of sunshine, a bar b que and some cold shandies could turn it into a brilliant meet.

ned - 31/3/05 at 02:03 PM

think a barbie is a good incentive to get everyone to travel a bit! will have a word, we're booked up with alanb for april, so maybe may would be a possibility..

Ned.

Ferg - 6/4/05 at 04:38 PM

I don't think we could push Tom's Velocity as far as Tattingstone, but the Libra might make it.

blockhead_rich - 7/4/05 at 05:32 PM

So when is the meet up then or have I missed this in the posts somewhere?
Rich

Bit too soon to be turning up in my Velocity though...give it another 3 mths!

Ferg - 7/4/05 at 06:47 PM

Sooner the better as far as I'm concerned, but then we're in the GRP-top.

Rich, car looks good in your archive, wouldn't mind taking a look at it if that would be possible.
My 16 year old is building one with a crossflow and it would be nice to see a few bits we're not sure about.
We're only in Sible Hedingham.

blockhead_rich - 7/4/05 at 07:03 PM

Any time mate, just not next week as I'm on my hol's. By the way I used to live just doen the road in cut maple!

Rich

p.s. Let me know if you want anything by Bosch too!

Danozeman - 7/4/05 at 09:21 PM

This is sounding good. Are we alowd to turn up not in a kit??

Craig81 - 16/4/05 at 09:53 AM

Come on Mr jenkins, whens this meet going to be then. ( someone has to make a decision)

cheers

craig

David Jenkins - 16/4/05 at 11:44 AM

Ferg - 16/4/05 at 01:23 PM

Anytime's fine for me.....but I have got a roof.

santcliff - 17/4/05 at 05:53 PM

What we need is somewhere with a butty van open on a sunday. Any ideas?

I'm all keen after a little run out. new motor is scary.

Whens the tune up day?

Anyone for bookatrack at snetterton on 10th may?.... said i'd got keen; new engine revs to the skys and i need a track for a bit of practice.

garage19 - 18/4/05 at 08:31 AM

Just a note. The BBC weather centre 5 day for cast is predicting sunshine for friday. Far as it goes at the mo.

blockhead_rich - 18/4/05 at 07:53 PM

So can you let me in on the secret of where the "Can Factory" is?

And I was going to put the engine in on Saturday....
Rich

Hi Rich,

Some would say it's halfway between insanity and normality.

I'll u2u my postcode,

and the same for anyone else that would like to come.

I'v told you ten million times Craig, don't exaggerate.

Anyone else ? Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Essex ?

It is an East Anglian meet after all.

The Suffolk mob are fed up with looking at each others ugly mugs.

It would be good to see some new faces.

I'm 15 mins west of Sudbury
30 mins south of Bury St Eds
25 mins north of Braintree
45 mins east of Cambridge

It's going to be a nice sunny day, honest. :

Paul G

DaveFJ - 19/4/05 at 08:02 PM

and 2 hours past the back of beyond

garage19 - 20/4/05 at 11:16 AM

So far weather says "Sunny intervals, no rain"

Sounds good to me!

Do you want us to contribute anything Paul?

It's unfair that you should have to pay for all the bacon, drinks!

Gaz 1977 - 20/4/05 at 11:54 AM

is there a veggie option?

i think you should ask the Parson.

rusty nuts - 20/4/05 at 05:29 PM

santcliff - 20/4/05 at 05:40 PM

craig

the_parson - 23/4/05 at 09:13 AM

You couldn't ask for a better day, barely a cloud in the sky.

I'll be heading over on the bike. Mein vater won't be coming because he's chore ridden this morning but I shall bring his camera and get some footage for the archives.

PS Will there be biscuits?

David

907 - 24/4/05 at 06:54 AM

Thanks everyone for coming. It was good to see you all.

Quiet as a mouse David, well, quiet as a Locost anyway.

Better go and scrub those "darkies" off the road then,
get rid of the evidence, what say you then Craig?

Paul G

Ferg - 25/4/05 at 05:44 PM

I've just found this photo on my phone. Considering it's a Locost 'Do' it's a bit light on Locosts!!!

garage19 - 25/4/05 at 08:46 PM

Paul,

Thanks for a the bacon butties. Was a pleasure to look round the can factory and see the skill that goes into making one of those suckers!

Ferg,

I now have light and dark grey flock in stock so i can do your roof panel a fairly close match to he rest of the interior. Let me know when you're ready.

Ferg - 27/4/05 at 06:44 PM

Cheers Doug. That's definately a goer, I'll just have to get the panel to you when I'm back from Stoneleigh. As I say I may wait 'til July when we go away......
The dash samples look really excellent.

Ferg - 14/8/05 at 12:12 PM

Those who attended the get together above will, no doubt, recall Keith's Dax Rush V8. Yesterday I attended the wedding of his daughter to a lad that works for me and the Dax was in attendance for photographic purposes. The sun shone for the photos, but later I think Keith regretted not having sorted a roof out yet........
