Polo Rad Again!

Any one used the fan assembly that comes off a polo with the rad?

Lot cheaper than bying a Kenlowe!

I bought a 2nd hand rad complete with metal frame and the fan off ebay. Got it this morning, but won't be using it for a good few weeks.

Do you want to borrow it?

Just thinking it may help to see the fan/frame arrangement before you mount the rad as it is on the rear.

Haven't got any further than beginning loom, as I have been flat out with other stuff. Will start again after Exeter.

I want to get that baby running, so need a few bits!

I must agree with ned, that exhaust look rather nice. Did you design that youself?

Sorry to go off the subject a bit!

I took the car to Powerspeed in Kent, have a look at these;

http://www.powerspeed.co.uk/index.html

Left them too it and they came up with it. Silencer is repackable as well.

£650 quid which was the cheapest by over £200!!!!

Broken Down

The top pipe keeps coming off my radiator (Supermarket car park today), the metal part is a little bent. Seems to be the weakest part of the system. What yewar is the Polo rad from? Also what pressure relief cap is everyone using, mine the original off the Escort but I'm wondering if it's pressure is too high without raditors.

Talking of Ken Lo's Fans, On my Land Rover, I didnt use their expensive Switch / Thermostat.

Radio Spares PART NO 561-460
Does the same job for a lot less.

You DO NEED to use the thermo's contacts to fire a RELAY to switch the Fans power, as the RS one wont take the current and will burn out if you try to drive the fan directly from the Thermo contacts. The cost of the additional relay is peanuts!. (and easy to wire in)

this polo rad souds good. does it fit the brackets dimensioned as per book? also what year. head about others using this and seems cheaper than some of the alternatives and on a stock(ish) 1300....

also, to go off the subject a bit (perhaps i can be pointed in the right direction), ive noticed there are a few builders from guildfors area around, me included. is there a regular meet, or is anyone interested in starting one??? would def like to meet some fellow builders.

Of course there's a regular meet!

You missed the irregular one yesterday!

See the section at the bottom (Clubs and Events). Look in there.

We usually meet 1st Sunday of the month. In the summer up at Newlands Corner (Guildford) whilst in the winter at Ryka's cafe at the bottom of Box Hill.

As for the rad, no it won't fit the book brackets- these aren't designed around Polo rad!

All the best,

James

Sorry Ned, didn't think people would know Godalming us being country bumpkins away from the big smoke of guildford!

You going to Exeter?

I stopped by at Brooklands college last night (where I learnt to weld) to catch up with my instructor.
Get there and he goes: "there's someone here who knows you " which is always worrying!

Anyway, standing over a hot MIG welder is AdamR. Also a Guildford resident and a recent purchaser of Ned's gearbox. Not quite sure how they'd come to be talking about me but hey- who can blame them!

Wheelsinsteadofhooves,
You should regularly check the Clubs and Events section of the forum. The monthly Newlands/BoxHill meet is always listed there. (It's 1st Sunday of the month). We have more frequent meets up at Walton Bridge (usually just when TheConrodKid get hungry).

When I strarted this hobby it was completely a northern thing. That seems to be changing! I think that's 7 of us now in/around Guildford. Maybe we should consider a Guidford meet. We would have even more excuse not to spend time in the garage actaully building cars!

Cheers,
James

for the record im off to exter on sat. anyone else? "bmf" (ben?) has my number so give me a shout if your going down. know this sort of gubbins really belongs in events section or wherever but seing as its all been led widly astray.

to go back to the matter in hand, i guess the polo rad could fit with some fairly simple brackets - ie strips of steel with an 'ole at each end?

right, i think we should have enough numbers between us to organise some shandy drinking

do you need any bits from exeter james?

out of the smoke? well i used to live in alfold and ifold if that counts

btw don't forget the wlm christmas bash, sadly i can't make it, but that's another story..

polo rad, oh yes, see surrey dave's pics, he uses strips of metal too, and it's what i plan to do eventually.. maybe next year...

lastly,

I propose a meet of us fellow guildfordians (and the godalming mob can come too ), round jame's (near spectrum) to see his car, when he gets his finger out and fits the fuel tank properly we can all enjoy rides in his drivable chassis

as surrey girls often say to me: it's f***ing huge!!

seriously, polo rad as in surrey dave's pics looks a bit tall for my liking. ive got a dodgy nosecone anyway that seems to leave the bottom chassis rail exposed (will be hidden by ali/numberplate), but need nice small compact rad to fit. might relieve my brothers ancient polo of its rad for an afternoon to see if its really as big as it looks.

if you're using the locost bodywork (ie the lowline stuff) then i don't think any nosecone covers the bottom front rail, mine doesn't! it's because they're all moulded off the caterfield one i think...

anyway, a small bracket would be hidden by number plate as you say, so what's the problem!
