Pinto Double Crankshaft pulley.
Being a complete gimboid I didn't take any pictures of my Pinto 2.0i engine before stripping it and I've since forgotten exactly how the
belts went.
What's confusing me is the crankshaft pulley. Which I need to replace/repair as I chipped a chunk out of it.
Unlike Ned's 2.0 carb'd engine which has a single-belt crank pulley, mine has a double. On mine the pulley behind the fan was also a
double. What on earth ran off the 2nd (outer) pulley?
My car did not have power steering/air con or anything else clever.
Is it possible there was a double belt system for strength- the inner ran alternator and fan and the outer ran just the fan. The two belts are
different length. Seems a little odd!
Any info (or even pictures!) greatfully recieved!
Thanks,
James

Is it a replacement engine?
Are you sure there wasn't power steering on it?
Cos the second pulley is for the Power Steering pump.
I've never seen anything else on a Pinto.
Cheers

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

My old car had the 2.0 efi pinto engine and it had a double pulley. This is because the alternator was able to provide enough current to power all the
electrics you have in a 2.0 ghia (70amps i think)
You wont need to run both belts although you can if you want.

Just to clarify
My car had a double crank pulley, a double water pump pulley and a double alternator pulley. Both belts ran in parallel

ditto julian... twin belts....
think i am going to stick with the double pulley system - I like the 'ahem' belts & braces aspect
That is if I can get a replacement pulley - yep knackerd mine getting it off too james!

Any help (I've got over 700 shots of the build so far - I can usually find something!)

Get a single crank pulley and just use one of the pulleys on the alternator and waterpump. The power steering pump will not be any use on the locost.
Swap the water pump as well if it's the old cast iron one, a new ally one is only £10 and weighs about a third as much.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
