Pinto 2.0l
Hi,
Could someone help me with a question, what is a Pinto block 205, obviously I know what a block is but I am not sure why the seller is specifically
referring to the block number.
The seller of the engine has mentioned that it is not a block 205?
What difference does this make? Do I need to know what the block number is?
It is an fuel injected engine if that helps.

A 205 block is the later injection engine one - its a bit stronger than the older one and can be bored out a bit more
(205 is the same block as a 2wd sierra cossie)
also it comes with slightly stronger conrods (a week point in pinto's)
so you'll want a 205 out of choice

Just to confuse you, my block is a 205 and it came from a late carbed sierra (1989).
You can identify it by the large cast in 205 on the top drivers side of the block (see pic).
They were fitted with stronger conrods (ok for 7000rpm continuous and 7300rpm periodically - whereas the non-205 was rated for about 6800rpm
continuous, however unless you have a very good head and fat carbs, you wont have any useable power at these revs anyway).
The 205 is also better for the 2.1 conversion as it had slightly thicker cylinder walls. Though a non 205 block will still take a 2.1 overbore 95% of
the time.
If you have the choice, the 205 is the one to have, but it doesnt make a lot of difference really.
If your block is injection, it *should* be a 205 block.

Mine is a carbed 205 block from an "E" reg car. It seems to be cars which were produced in Germany that got the 205 block earlier and in
non injection form.

Just to confuse you further...
there is a 200 block which is I beleive the basis of the better cosworth engines and is better that the 205 block.......

...from the 4x4's, they are quite a bit heavier too though
and then there is a WRC version of the 200 as well
