The Aldon Ignitor is a cheap and easy way to do this.

It just replaces the points and works well for me.

If you want a customisable ignition map then Megajolt is the obvious way to go but be ready for a fair bit of fiddling - oh and it won't be fitted and running in about 20 minutes

Cheers

Mark

Shameless plug

As soon as i road test megajolt install i will be selling my electronic ignition set up. It is the std Sierra electronic, based on a brand new dizzy (now only done 3,500 miles). I have the wiring, coil, leads, new dizzy cap and rotor arm fitted etc. U2U me if interested and we will work out a price.

Just depends if you want std electronic or a modified dizzy set up like what Jacko suggests.

Regards,
Darren.

I can vouch for that with MJLJ - took me at least 35 mins

Seriously it is not a bad way to go but not your budget electronic option and some learning of 3D mappable systems and bits to use is required.
The system iam just removing did me proud until i got into the upgrade mode. Im basically prepping for bike carbs hence modding the ignition and getting it all de-bugged first.

The good news about a std electronic system is that it is a saleable item should you wish to upgrade later.

Jacko - i believe you might be right There is a good core team of dedicated Pinto followers on here. Who needs a low torque bike engine!!!!!

Jacko,

You need to have a look at an Ignitor -my car was vastly improved when I binned the points and put the ignitor in - an I haven't had to look at it since

the ignitor just replaces the points - it goes in your existing dizzy. It has no effect on the advance curve, but it does give a better spark and better starting, it doesn't go out of adjustment or wear out like points do.

Cheers

So Darren how's it running now. I have managed to map both fuel and ignition in a weekend so I hope you are well sorted ready for Monday.

I agree about who needs a low torque bike engine. Long live the Zetec

Steve - Car ticks over and revs very well. Havent had chance to road test yet as ive decided to take front suspension to bit to paint up some scabby horrible looking bits. Will have it all back together by weekend. Will probs map it on drive to Boro' on Monday!!
Im running out of time so dare bet ill be in 2D mode for the track. Cant wait to see your set up. Might give me some throttle body inspiration.

Mooky - i thought Jackos dizzy didnt have points. I seem to recall it is an electronic dizzy with modified advance curve (no vacuum). His earlier post said 'on points', i think it should have been typed 'no points'. Might be wrong though.
