ok. Lets see if i got this right
i'm gonna rebuild my pinto in the following weeks, and decided i will rebuild it with standard parts for now.
however i'm planning a simple camshaft change and thats it. (bike carbs and Megajolt are left for the long run)
I was reading some articles from Dave Andrews on timing settings. seeing i have the EDIS module from the sierra (its this... right?)
engine control unit
so i have an early electronic dizzy right? its not a points dizzy? however the distributor has a red cap...
anyway... what are the options available to have an adjustable engine management? I'd like to have a manual setup (as in dizzy and thats it.. no
electronic bits)
but i just dont know what are the advantages of having say megajolt versus a modified dizzy and thats it...
i think im also confusing the megajolt with a piggyback system (that which has a COM port for a computer to get all the info on the engine and modify
the map accordingly)
how come the megajolt needs the EDIS module to work?
all in all i have searched and i know there is an average of 120 posts a day about megajolt and whatnot, but i just dont understand.

Thats not an EDIS module...
Looks like the old style Sierra EIS(?) system so unless you take the lot over as a whole, you're going to need a new dizzy...
You can get them cheap enough on fleabay brand new.

What you have there is an ESCII system. Simplest to use is an inductive discharge system from an earlier 2.0 (up to 85) or 1.6 but you need the
distributor and module with some wiring and plugs included. It's a black thing with six wires coming out of it. Edis module is electronic
distributorless ignition system and is the dumb bit as it will run all day but only at 10°BTDC. Megajolt is the brains of the outfit and controls the
advance by a programmable chip so you can modify it to suit your engine.

Simple cam shaft change will be alright with the standard dizzy for the moment, won't be ideal but i would concentrate on the camshaft timing
and the fueling.
Have a look here for a do it yourself option for the dizzy.

thanks for the replies. checked on the haynes manual and it says it is in fact an ESC II system.
so should i just scrap that? what should i get to have proper adjustability on the engine?
right now i can devise three different options:
1- Substituting the ESC module with Megajolt and EDIS
2- Distributorless ignition (lumenition?)
3- mechanical dizzy (points?)
which one do you think is better?
