oil filter clearance
I only have about 1.5 inches clearance with the steering rod,Is this normal on mk chassis.I am using mk engine mounts ,surely there isn't a
filter small enough to fit that gap.

A crosland 659 (renault 4 /5?) may fit, else it's a remote filter. I had to do this on my tiger.

We had the same problem with our Velocity XT. We managed to find a fillter that fit with about 10mm clearance. It is a FRAM PH2874 early Renault 5 oil
filter. it is 58mm high in total including the rubber seal! Hope this helps!

I have used FRAM PH4546 which is a few mm's shorter than PH2874, its still tight though and really could do with the engine coming back a bit.
In fact if MK sportscars could alter the tunnel from curved to angled you could get the engineback a couple of inches and the gearstick on a type 9
would be in a better possition as well, although that will make an issue with the brace bar on the top of the tranny tunnel
I'm sure it can be achieved though
Here is a pic of my 5mm clearance.

I canted my engine over a few degrees and this was enough to allow a full size mondeo filter to fit under the steering shaft.

I have engine back as far as possible, and i dont think even your filter bob will fit mine.I cant even get the engine more to the left(nearside) as the
engine rubber mount bolt hole will be through the chassis rail.looks like I'll have to fit a remote filter plate.

I had to redrill my mount holes and push the engine slightly off centre, i thought about a remote filter but the prblem there is the remote houseing
is the same height as the PH 2874 filter.
Zetecs idea of slightly tilting the engine is out for me as my zorst wouldnt fiit then.
My engine mounts are 1 x bolt hole over towards near side, hope this helps.

Yes i drilled another hole on plate that sits on the rubber mount, but beware if you have box and engine in that the gearbox/prop will then pul
towards the drivers side of the tunnel.
I thought this to be a bit to close so repositioned the gearbox mount as well.
Getting the zetec in the indy is a bit of a bitch but i think its worth it.
