Where's the Engine Number

Bought what is supposed to be a 1993 2-Litre Zetec which I'm intending fitting with Bike Carbs and Megajolt.

Sound silly but where do I find the engine number? I had expected it to be something like PE then 5-numbers but there doesn't seem to be anything like this on the block.

Also should I keep any of the old wiring from the engine. It's all a bit of a mess but I wondered if I'm likely to need any of the connectors.

Many thanks,
John.

Its on the casting next to the VR sensor. Mine was corroded to death and the electrolysis bath cleaned it up enough to read, however its now disappeared again under the dreaded red..
keep the engine wiring as some of the cables are shielded and difficult to replace. The connectors are good for wiring up the Megajolt to the original Ford sensors. Rescued attachment engno.jpg

there is a raised boss near the gearbox bell housing, exhaust side. often it can rust to bu88ery so you can't read the deatils.

a google reveals that I am right, again!!

Identifying your 2.0 Zetec engine is quite easy, though not obvious when the engine's covered in manifolds and grime. First, the engine number starts with the initials NGA. If you look on the front of the engine, the engine number is etched in to the block next to the gearbox bellhousing. The other identification mark is a large 20 cast in to the block. This is at the top of the front of the block, and is obscured by the exhaust manifold.

Wow! That was Quick

Gave it a quick wire brush and got PC 18590 NGA which looks like good news.

Thanks for your help,
John.

Take a digiphoto of it whilst you can (or paint it to prevent it going rusty)....
At neither the SVA nor vehicle build up inspection did they decide to look at the actual engine number when I showed them a printed picture of it and explained it was right under the engine and partially obscured by a chassis rail.....
Shame I didn't put the 1999 engine in instead of the 1990 one No-one would have checked!!!
