Zetec SE 1600 with bike carbs
Morning Guy's,
This is the first of many postings no doubt!!
I'm just about to start an MK Indy build with the Zetec SE 1600 lump and would like to do down the bike carb route instead of sticking with the
injectors. My concerns are do any of you guy's know of any known issues I may encounter going this route when it comes to the emissions test
with the SVA or would you recommend sticking with the injectors?
Many Thanx
Mark

first of all welcome to the madhouse, i'm sure you will like it here
don't know about the bike carbs though, but as your engine will be post 95 you'll need a cat to get through sva.

I have not had experience with bike carbs but I have injected my 2.0L Zetec using MegaSquirt. Whilst it is not by any means the easy option it does
teach you a hell of a lot about fueling and ignition.
The cheque book method would be to go to somewhere like THIS and buy an off the peg answer.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

find year of engine from engine number. post 95 emissions are stricter - you need a CAT - and from what I read, you will not get through with carbs
(no doubt someone will say otherwise)
the article I was referring to:

A very big welcome Mark!
Nice to see you on here at long last!
I can only reiterate our conversation of last night, it will be hard to get through emissions, I do not know enough about mega-squirt, but may be
worth investigating.
Have a chat with Surrey Dave at our next meet about mega-squirt! ...

Chaps,
Going by the general mood in the camp I think it's wise to stick with the injector route.
I contacted the 'Bogg Brothers' who have been very helpful over the last few days and canceled the order. Unfortunately all of the cars
they have converted to bike carbs have all been post SVA. They did say they didn't see any reason why it shouldn't pass however obviously
it wouldn't be wise to take that risk.
Chaps, many Thanx for all your advise on this, I look forward to picking your brains again soon!!
Mark.

I cant see why bike carbs wont go through the emisions on a pre cat engine,in fact i cant see why it wouldnt go through on a later engine either.
It might mean it will run like crap for the test but hey ho its a pass were after.

Shite don't like the sound of this!!!!
No , my carbs have never been measured on an MOT , dont know why , it might have helped me with setting up.
They seem to be very precise instruments(bike carbs) so I would have thought they could be tuned OK for the emissions.
