Choices choices

Another question from me...

I currently have a 38DGMS carb to bolt onto my pinto.

Potentially I can get a pair of 40DHLAs. According to the jetting calculator on Dave Andrews website 40's will give me a maximum of 6000-6250rpm peak power with 36-37mm chokes. (more than enough with a std pinto bottom end?!)

Question is, is it worth upgrading to a pair of 40DHLAs over my 38DGMS? If so what advantages could I expect?

Cheers,
David

Not sure about Twin 40DHLAs but I think Twin 40 DCOE's only usually have a 32mm choke and from what I remember you either can't change them because it lessens the venturi effect or it was certainly expencive.

Get bike carbs.

- Better fuel economy
- Better performance
- Better sound
- Easier to setup
- Stay on tune better

Can you tell I really like my R1 carbs?

Chokes are available upto 36mm for 40DCOEs and 37mm for 40DHLAs. Aux venturis are the expensive bit from what i can gather.

I must say I like the idea of bike carbs. But I would like to hear some rolling road results comparing a bike carbed set up to a twin carb setup if i was going to go that way...

Darren, megajolt is beyond me at the moment. I like to keep it simple, give me more chance of fixing it at the side of the road if it conks out

Any more input welcome

I bought twin DHLA 40's that have been set up for a 2.0l pinto and I think they have 34mm chokes and 36mm is a maximum. Don't people say a 2.0l is best with 45's anyway.

Having read the recent Bogg Bros thread I could well be going the R1 carb route now. I've been watching a few go on EBAY and they seem to go around the £100 mark so cheaper to buy than Webbortos too.

By the time I've bought a manifold, linkages and ram pipes I'll probably have spent more than the £300 quoted on here for a package from Boggs.

If I hadn't got them in the garage I'd definitely go the R1 carb route as they seem to do more for similar money.

I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

Finally got around to uploading the video I made just after fitting the bike carbs (ignore the bodged throttle cable).

Warning: it's 90BM so if you haven't got broadbeans you should have.
