Engine cooling, side vents + cold air induction….

Not sure if I’m worry about this too much for a road/track car, but I’ve nearly completed my Stylus and need have a couple of outstanding issue.

I’ve got twin 45s with K&N bolt on filters in a completely open engine bay (2.0 pinito), I’m yet to even fit wheel arch liners or fit side vents.

I want to ensure that I get the hot air from the rad & engine out and get cold air to the filters, but how?

Option 1 is to run some 76mm ducting from the side of the rad (i.e. cold air) to the filters + put a couple of RS turbo or cobra style vents in the wings behind the front wheels and box the wheel arches in.

Option 2 alloy panel the floor of the engine bay, add a alloy panel behind the radiator to duct the hot air in to the boxed wheel arches, add side vents to release air pressure from cold air feed to filter (again 76mm hose from the front) + this will act as an exit for engine and exhaust heat (note pipes already lagged). See pic for example.

Option 2 make the most sense to me although if the route from rad to exit is too bendy it might compound the problem. Either way panelling the floor of the engine bay will improve flow.

You will want ventilation where there is low pressure - ie above the bonnet. This will act as an extractor and make venting that much more efficient. This should give you an idea of what I mean

bit drastic, and a lot of work, but's it's one of the mods I'll be doing when remaking my bonnet.

Razmans looks very cool and not far off what I had planned originally (although that looks a lot neater), I'd also seen something very similar on a westfield.

The amount of body work + sealing the exit from the back of the radiator to the bonnet had put me off, I might have to get the tape measure out again....

For optimal cooling you want high pressure inlet, low pressure outlet. The tires tend to "grab" air and stuff it into the wheel wells creating pressure. This is why you see wheel arch vents on pretty well all full body race cars. Probably still less pressure than the front of the car so air will still move at speed, but not as well if you vented to the sides of the body.

The general way to do the underhood ducting is hoses to the inlet of the rad for the engine/brake and exhaust the hot rad air to the sides of the car (sometimes the top, but sides are prefered IMO)

Hard to do on a street car w/o ruining its pretty lines .
