Why would you want to do that. Its largely hidden and under the bonnet. Better to spend time on the other bits imho. Silver paint works well on these bits. You could try that chrome plastikote spray. Its not that close to chrome on cast bits but not bad.

As an aside - i took my steel bits to a place that specialises in de-rusting and zinc plating. Worked a treat and only £40ish cash. I then etch primed and sprayed silver smoothrite.

There is a whole range of American dogs danglies anti-rust, anti-corrosion products called ACF50 sold by www.worldwideaviation.co.uk. It's used by the aviation industry for long-term protection and it really works. Not cheap but WD40 it ain't. Cheers, Pewe.

It is very tricky to polish. Give it a clean and some silver spray and it will look like new.

Sorry to those who have suggested it, a personal taste thing I guess (and the first time I have disagreed with DarrenW I think!) but I HATE!!!!!! silver paint!!!

I think it looks awful on things, especially once they have "weathered" a touch!

If you want your gearbox to look nice and fresh, get it glass bead or "aquablasted" (the latter something I learnt on here myself!) and then laquered (or anodized if it's stripped and you're feeling really posh.
Paint other than black on things like this just looks bad in my humble opinion!

Ah ha - we actually agree again. I painted mine matt black and think it looks great (as does the diff). I used the chrome paint on rocker cover and its not that great / durable.

Zetec's does look good but knowing his attention to detail i bet it was cleaned very well at first and took some work to achieve that finish. Like all bright things, they do take some looking after to keep nice - thats why i went for black. My car is for driving and not for show.
