Hi can any one help me? I’m in the early stages of building my locost. I have all my donor parts and an engine. Problem is the engine; it is the 2.0
DOHC with an mt75 gearbox. I’m strongly thinking of ditching this engine for the reasons of a lack of tuning parts and the size and weight of the
whole thing. I’m thinking of going for a 1.8 or 2.0 zetec. Can any ont tell me if the zetec motor will fit in to the book chassis? Will I have to move
any tubes? Will the mt75 gearbox fit a zetec engine? And how easy is it to get parts like inlet manifolds for twin 40’s, cut down sums etc? Will I
have to run a cat on it? Which one of these engines is the better one the 2.0 or the 1.8 and how much is the going rate for these motors?

if u get an early zetec, before 1995 u won't need a cat, (i think) the best for power is the 2.0litre zetec, however i brought a 1.8 zetec as
its cheaper, the flywheel is already quite light and i can use the sump too. oh and i won't need to change the water pump ethier!
if u get a 2 litre, it will need a modified sump and a 1.8 litre water pump, also the flywheel is very heavy!
yes the Mt75 gearbox will bolt straight on.
am not sure about the chassis but i would be surprised if it needed major modification!
this is all what i have researched so anyone feel free to correct me!

the zetec will fit abook chassis, but you might struggle with lowline bodywork due to the height, GTS bodywork will fit,
the MT75 Gearbox will need the tunnel area modifying to get it far enough back, but you can couple the zetec to a type 9 so should be OK.
i paid £150 for a 65k miles 2.0

Where to start?
The zetec will mount to your box no problems. Clutch wise will depend on your donor. But you will need a clutch plate with a 1” 23 spline centre
(standard on zetecs with the mtx75 box) and a 19mm spacer on the thrust bearing which Westfield supply. When stripping the donor don’t forget the tin
plate that goes between the engine and box.
Mods to the engine will depend on the donor. My recommendations would be to buy a full pre 95 escort or Orion manual NOT automatic that has failed its
mot. I missed a free one last week but look hard and £50 shouldn’t be hard. Look for one that runs well and has had the oil changed regally. Don’t
attempt a rebuild as it costs loads just clean it paint it and thrash it don’t worry about mileages of 100k plus is ok.
The 1.8 escort will give you the correct water pump, sump, flywheel. Ect. Using the cams from the 130 spec 1.8 or 2l cams carbs and ecu will give
around 150bhp .The 2l will only give slightly more power but a lot more toque.
The engine and box fit the book chassis, but will fit better if you can move it over a touch. I had to move one rail a fair bit to clear the
starter.
Where are you in Linc’s m8 as your welcome to come and have a look at progress so far? Hope to have engine in and running by Easter as the chassis is
very nearly finished.
As for tuning and bits for the zetec, sky or your wallet is the limit with many firms specialising in the engine.

I can give you the nuber of a breakers where I got mine. You get a propper receipt with engine numbers and age ect. Handy for registering.

Hi and welcome Ady!
I'm fitting a 1.8 Zetec to a MT75 Box. Should be no problems in a book chassis. You will have to widen the chassis at the gearbox tunnel for the
box.
The Oil filter is too long but easy enough to replace for a shorter version.
I would recommend you do change the water pump as you need to make sure it is spinning in the right direction. (a 1.8 Zetec from a Mondeo for example
uses a serpentine belt system so the waterpump works differently from the Fiesta zetec)
The 1.8 is easier to fit as the 2.0 needs the flywheel changing due to weight.
I'm fitting a Megasquirt system for the injection system (£100 ish) saves the cost of carbs (£400+ ish)

Iv got a 1.8 zetec in my locost. If u get an escort/orion one itl have a shallower sump and correct water pump etc. I had to widen the tunnel a bit
to get the gbox further back. I would imagine u would have to do that anyway with a dohc.
Im running mine on bike carbs and megajolt. Easy enough.
As said above dont rebuild it. Much cheaper and easier to get another engine if its a lemon.
This is a Luego locost chassis which is the closest to the book youl buy.

a 1.8 litre is better in my opinon. i managed to get a 1.8 litre zetec from a xr3I so its the higher powered version! was only £80 too and was
delivered free as my dad happened to be in the area at the time. was pretty lucky!
i didn't want a high torque engine as i am using my stock saab gearbox which was orginally designed for a 2 stroke engine of about 30bhp!
it will take the power, so people tell me but i can't do stupid stuff like drifting with it as i would wreck the gearbox!
is an old school gearbox with a steering column gear change and a freewheel!

Mmmmmmm interesting thread this. I was hoping to go the XE route but with a sump and belhousing it starts to eat into the budgie a bit.
So the 1.8 with some goodies might be the answer. Which cars had the 130 specifically? they must be plentiful and cheap With a type 9 box what
clutch plate do you need (cable or hyd).
Will the starter from the escort/orion fit with the type 9 box. Anything else I might need to know?

Get the 2 litre if you can. A water pump cost me about £14 (new) and a sump is readily available from a scrap yard as is a flywheel.

What motors have the 2 litre (Non Cat).
I'm not up on my fords you see cause up until now v/halls rule OK
