cosworth inlet manifold on a pinto?

Hi all, i am after a bit of advice.. i am fitting a 2L efi pinto in my kit and even with the bodywork i am fitting, i will need to modify the velum chamber to fit under the bonnet without having to chop a hole i it!

I have seen a few ways of doing this.. like cutting a wedge out of the manifold and re-welding back together (cant go too low this way as idle control valve will hit rocker cover).....

... or by cutting through the pipes at the point they are horizontal.. making a hole in the base of retangular part of the chamber..welding on.. cutting off the old pipe exits close to the rectangular section and welding on blanking plates.

I have a good fabrication and machine shop near me that would be happy to do either for me as i dont have the equipment to do it myself (or skill).

To make life easier for myself i wondered if anyone had experience of fitting a cosworth velum to the pinto head? I heard it was possible and would seem to be quite neat as the original efi velum is huge and bloody ugly.

Help, my brain hurts.

Ross

possible if you know somebody to do the ally welding.

Certainly it will have to right port centres but it ain't going to be an easy job!

ally welding not a problem.. got a guy locally who is very good, he does aircraft bits and bobs too in ally to the right spec so cant be bad

Just having a headache trying to make things neat and functional.. really dont want a big damn hole in the bonnet!

Have a look at Mark Allansons build - I think he made a custom inlet plenum for a Pinto. A quick U2U might extrac some useful info.

Cheers

not meaning to make your descisions even harder, but by the time you have gone to the trouble of altering the cossie manifold/plenum to fit, it may well be easier to make a manifold to suit motorbike throttle bodies, and use those instead, as they will liberate some more useful power too, or are you keeping the full std injection system as well?

hmm.. motorbike throttle bodies was another thought i had, as one of my housemates owns a large bike breakers an i can get parts without a problem, as you say, after all the hassle involved it prob would be easier to use bike ones or just make my own chamber.

Thanks for your help guys, gives me some more to think about!

cheers,
Ross

By heck Ketchup you cetainly have a unique way of prompting some friendly discussion and banter to help with your queries.

Ive not seen that approach much on this forum. Try eating cornflakes for breakfast instead of raw meat.
