4age cooling questions

I have a 4age engine that will, ultimately, run with gsxr600 throttle bodies.

what I need to know about is the cooling. I don't anticipate having any sort of heater, nor will I need any coolant running through the intake manifold. Therefore, what is the "minimalist" cooling plumbing?

I know that there are at least two different water pumps (RWD vs FWD-mr2). So, which water pump, and where do the hoses go? Where is the thermostat? Which hoses can be eliminated or ports blocked?

I imagine a hose from the bottom of the radiator to the water pump, but beyond that, I am at a loss.

any help would be appreciated.

dave

Here are some pics of a friend's Corolla with GSX-R750 bodies and an EG civic Fluidyne radiator:

He has amazing cooling at highway speeds, but has been getting hot due to fan issues (Nissan 240SX fan and no shroud)

I assume you are using the 16v, since you are putting ITBs on it, rather than using the stock 20v ITBs.

The 4AG RWD water pump must be used with the RWD motor if you want your hoses to match up.

Minimalist plumbing would be: top of radiator to water pump and block to top of radiator.

Both to the top of rad?
Could you please explain.

I have RWD pump set up and built in stat with an escort rad,I have also fitted Rover 220 header and a return from rad top to header bottle with the main bottle feed going into the heater pipes.

Sorry, it wasn't clear in the first post:

The block hose goes to the top of the rad, and the pump hose goes to the bottom of the rad.

Unfortunately, my Yankee behind doesn't know what a Rover 220 header looks like, but it sounds like maybe there is a cooler on the header itself? You have a picture?

Lets start off..... which engine do you have? is it a blue top from the original mr2 or the RWD blue top from the corolla GT? maybe its a newer version? Also do you have any of the plumbing with the engine already or are you planning on sourcing it? Ive spent a good while sorting out my cooling so i know the two ways of doing it.

I have never even seen a 4ag installed in a car, so don't have any preconceived notions about how to do it.

I purchased a brand new "small port" long block for silly money and would like to use it. I will spend time on EBay and other forums to gather together the parts I need, once I know what they are (and where they go).

Where do I start?

BTTT

Sorry I haven't replied as I have been on a course 200 miles from my PC all week.

Fidlay 234 is right we could do with knowing which pump outlet and thermostat(or not) set up you have.
I'd also be interested in seeing Findlay234's two set ups as lots of people have done this and not got it quite right.
It is (or should be) very straightforward but most people(inluding RAW early on) get it wrong.
The main problem being that they dont realise that the waterflows into the top hose from the rad when the stat opens.(think thats right)!
